Pantone Spot Colors vs CMYK Process

In this video we do a virtual demonstration to see how many of the Pantone spot colors in the Pantone library-solid coated-that we can reproduce using CMYK process inks.
We’ll take a look at offset, digital toner, and inkjet using CMYK inks only to reproduce spot colors accurately under a Delta E of 3.

This is all considering you want to replicate a spot color in CMYK process, right? Why would one want to do this? Cost reduction? What if my printer is able to use the actual spot color? Isn't it better and even closer to, say, a brand guide that has the brand colors defined as spot?
