Just watched the whole video. I’m excited to follow along. It’s just my husband and I right now. We are also doing the pantry challenge. This will be my second year feeding both of us and I definitely learned some things from the 1st year.

Thank you so much for watching! I agree, I feel like I learn something new every year that I can bring into the following year. I feel like I just need an absolute redo and failing so miserable last year 🤣 good luck to you on your pantry challenge!!

The FDA banned the use of steroids and hormones in poultry production in the 50s. What we see in the grocery stores are the Frankenbird hybrids that were created to produced insane amounts of meat on their individual frames. Cornish cross is one of the more ubiquitous meat breeds. I can't remember which homesteading channel mentioned them, but I think it was More Than Farmers. If I'm recalling correctly, Codi mentioned that they grew so fast and so large that it freaked them out a little and they never raised them again.

Thank you for sharing this info! That makes me feel better, but also I still don't like how big they are 😅 I love More than Farmers, they seem to really know their stuff, great to know!

Syrup does not expire, but you have to refrigerate it aft opening or it will get moldy.
@TrellisandTrails8 күн бұрын
Thank you so much! I felt so silly not knowing! 🤪 that answers my question!
@b3thamphetamine6 күн бұрын
@@TrellisandTrails It's not silly at all. Dating labels are intentionally confusing. You might find a best by, which is more of a best quality before whichever date. That's what gets put on the maple syrup we get.

I have never refrigerated syrup after opening it. It has never gone bad. I am 72 years old, for reference purposes.

@@stephanieinglett8569me too… the syrup part, not the 72 part. 😊❤

Good morning! We are a family of 4, so we will have a budget of $50 per week for diary and produce.

@@Anabel.and.Thomas good morning! That's a great goal! I definitely am considering getting a specific budget as well, just to keep ourselves in line.

How will you be using the ground bison? Chilli, perhaps?
@TrellisandTrails5 күн бұрын
We have used it in so many different things! Basically, anything you would use ground beef for. Chili, tacos, burgers, meatloaf.. the options are endless!

New sub, I'll be following along. It's just me and I only eat meat, cheese, eggs, butter and fruit. BUT I do cook for my daughter and 4 grandchildren, and they eat way different than I 😂.

Thank you so much for subscribing! I love having a simple diet, I feel like we have a little too much variety now 😄 I think meat, cheese, eggs and butter are the staples!

I appreciated what you said about hormone-grown chickens, but chicken breeds are not all small.

You shouldn't store your potatoes next to onions I think they should be several feet away from each other. I don't remember why.
@TrellisandTrails7 күн бұрын
You're totally right, I just haven't followed this rule yet lol. The onions can cause the potatoes to spoil quicker! I should move them.. eventually 🤪

I'm wondering if it's okay for me to store canned goods down there
@TrellisandTrails8 күн бұрын
Mine is not either but always stays between 55-66°F. Canned goods are best stored in a cool, dark, dry place, so I feel like the temperature is actually perfect for them! I keep a thermometer on my shelf usually just to keep an eye on the temperature, but even when we've gotten snow and below freezing temps it stays consistently around 55°.

Have you been diagnosed with veneers disease? Or checked your home for hidden mold?
