PANTSULA DANCE TUTORIAL 3 - Life In Progress

Tshidiso shows us some of his PANTSULA dance moves. He's been dancing Pantsula since he was 12. He'll be giving dance workshops in Switzerland in March
Jerry, founder/director of the dance group TAXIDO:
"This is such an interesting dance because it's movements are derived from everyday life in the townships, e.g. from a person who is walking, running for a taxi, riding a train. Or even worse situations, like street fights, gambling etc.
Being a Pantsula you were always regarded as clever in the township and most of the young people chose this lifestyle more than any other dance style."

With his dance group TAXIDO, Jerry is keeping youngsters away from the street. Wherever they perform, they are met with thunderous applause. Suddenly, there is hope of a dance career, of work, and of a better future.
But back in their huts the daily struggle and hardship prevails. And Jerry, demanding rigid discipline, is not making life any easier for these young people. But then the teenagers start to realise that life has even more in store for them.
20 years after the end of apartheid, LIFE IN PROGRESS offers a unique insight into the lives of three teenagers coming of age in a South African township called Katlehong.
