PANZER ARMS M4 SPEED PRO

I just received my Panzer M4 Speed today and I noticed a very strange design detail that I don't think any of the reviewers have mentioned. The bolt release seems to be completely different than a standard M4. Instead of just an over-sized button that pushes in on the bolt release, the button actually "pivots" and the end of the shell release is separated from the main plate. When the bolt is retracted and you press on the front of the button is releases the bolt. But if you press on the rear of the button it activates the shell release tang and will cause a shell to eject out of the magazine. IT WILL DO THIS AT ANY TIME. So if you have the bolt closed and another shell already on the shell lifter AND you happen to press or bump the rear of the big button, it will eject another shell into the lift area and completely jam up the gun. You will then have to reach in there with something and push the second shell back up into the magazine. This will also happen with the bolt closed on an empty chamber and you press the REAR of the bolt release button - it will release TWO shells into the loading gate, again jamming the gun. Have you experienced this during your operating the gun? I have another M4 which has a standard bolt release button and this cannot happen because when there is a shell in the lifter the bolt release button cannot be pressed. But because Panzer made the end of the bolt carrier release an independent piece, it can move at any time. On a standard M4 with a OEM button or over sized button it just moves in and out. On the Panzer Speed/Pro the button rocks back and forth. Forward releases the bolt and rearward releases a shell. The only benefit I see to this is you can unload the magazine without cycling the shells through the chamber. But bumping the rear of the button any other time will jam the gun. What think?

@@GUNVIRA Please let me know if your shotgun exhibits this same functionality. At first I thought something was wrong but after disassembling and inspection it appears it was designed this way. Unfortunately the manual that comes with the gun is just a standard Panzer M4 manual so it makes no mention of the oversized lever nor are any of the different parts shown in the exploded parts diagram.

Yes I believe you should only use that to unload the gun by first pushing the loading gate all the way in.

I originally bought a Panzer M4 then upgraded to a Benelli M4, for the money the Panzer Speed Pro fits the pocketbook and has great features, For most it is all you would need, for others like myself it's a good stepping stone. another M4 Clone option with the adjustable stock, ported barrel is the REV 4 that costs $399

I love that this is like a direct clap back to the Orthos Raider S4. Offering basically everything and more for half the price. The only thing the s4 still has over this is the innovative stock, and it comes with an unrestricted shell tube. Panzer even stuck it to Benelli by adding the QD spot and allowing you to switch the charging handle. Just goes to show that big companies love to make people overpay for their name. They've gained reputation and grown complacent with no innovations over the years. Now these clones are having dog fights for a fraction of the cost. Competition in the market is a beautiful thing.

I have one of the non-Pro versions on order. Does this model come with choke tubes? I cannot find any mention in any of the specifications on the Panzer site. I hope not as I have them on other Panzer shotguns and am not a fan. I don't feel the need on a defensive shotgun. I've had issues with the cylinder choke shaving lead on slugs. Even at $600 this is an excellent value especially when you consider adding the oversized bolt release and larger charging handle to a standard M4 clone is going to cost you around $300. Add in the enhanced loading port and barrel porting and it's a sweet deal.

Any chance of a KSG review? Would love to hear your thoughts on it. My wife and i have KSGs, she had the Wick Version while i run the KSG25. Both rocking magpul accessories and romeo 5s. Besides that, i have the howitzer muzzle break for a little razzle dazzle. Our main complaints both center on reloading, while on the other hand, we reserve one tube for mini slugs and cocktail our primary tubes with 2.75s. I figure we'd be in serious shit if a situation arises where we'd have to reload 20+ shells on a bullpup. Anyway, great content!

@GUNVIRA thanks for the quick response. That was my thoughts as well. Do you think the porting makes a big difference? I'm a firearms instructor and often teach a lot of female students. They tend to struggle with Pump Action Shotguns, even after showing the push-pull technique. I have a Mossberg 930JM, which most can handle the recoil, but my is a 22" barrel (3 gun version), so it's pretty front heavy. I think this may be an ideal solution, as long as it's reliable, and it appears that this is. Did you field strip/clean it before shooting, or did you shoot it right out of the box? Thanks in advance for your time.

From what I hear shooting the M4 in general is not as bad as 12 Guage should be, and that's the base M4, not the speed pro with the ported barrel, so this one probably kicks even less

The only difference between the Speed Pro and Speed versions is the Speed Pro has the metal forend with the MLOK slots and the Speed version has the poly forend like the original M4. That's why it's only a $49 difference between the two.

I feel the jamming and breaking thing is overstated. I have a MAC 1014 M4 clone that I've put many hundreds of shells through - slugs, 00 buck and birdshot and not a single malfunction and no noticeable wear on any of the internals. I also have a Panzer EGX500 bullpup 12ga and it too has been 100% reliable. There's no denying some of the early Turkish clones had a few metallurgy issues but I think the newer productions are rock solid. To get a Benelli M4 and then add the bolt release, larger bolt handle, etc. you are soon nearing $3000. The Italian guns are nice but they are definitely overpriced.
