Paolo Sebastian: Behind the Seams | MAKERS WHO INSPIRE

As a young boy Paul Vasileff found his love for fashion while learning to sew with his grandmother. Now at 27, he has founded his own couture house and made an unquestionable mark on the industry.
Often inspired by a fable or fairytale, Paul designs every gown the label creates. His couture has dressed countless celebrities and graced red carpets around the world, including the Oscars and the Met Gala.
As well as becoming one of Australia’s leading designers, Paul is also the first South Australian to launch a collection at Paris Fashion Week and has been awarded Young Australian of the Year by the Prime Minister.

Very very inspiring, l just love listening to people who have found their calling, they always speek pure wisdom. I particularly loved it when he said that fashion help people to "become the best version of themselves" and l think that's a wonderful mission to live by 'cuse it adds high value to his work that goes beyond the fabric and the threads.

He is so grounded and what he says is so true. I worked in couture in Paris for 40 years and people outside the business always imagined that I would 'dress up' and 'go to parties' all the time but I wore jeans and converse and tshirts and our days were long and often we worked week ends so downtime was washing my hair, having my legs waxed or sleeping more than 6 hours!

There are no more provocative words than 'you can't do that' to someone with talent as it boosts you forward to do it. I am always amazed by those who try to talk you down, to look at their lives and see how small they are when life is huge, enormous, gigantic! He is my greatest inspiration second to that of my family and teacher who taught me how to sew. It's my final year of highschool & we have a creative arts design show. This is usually the art kids making dresses out of scraps and things. But I intend to launch my line that day. And for it to be my work that gets me into the white house maybe and to start off my own line.
