There is a checkout chap at the Mayfield Woolworths who looks exactly like Saro. Every time I see him I think of that moment Pirandello finally remembers his name and the look on Saro's face. This is my favourite movie. I lived on the road in various parts of the world for three years as a teenager, and after we go back to Australia, at school in the urban sprawl of Brisbane I saw this late one night in 1990, and it took me back to Italy. It perfectly had what it feels like to be in Italy, and at that time there was no-one around me who could understand what that felt like. More recently we finally had enough money to go to Europe and visited Venice. That checkout chap in Mayfield Woolworths also looks exactly like a sculpture of one of the old Doges. Now when I get the groceries at Mayfield Woolworth's I go to Venice too.

I too love this film and it has had a profound influence on my life over the last thirty-five years. From Saro's pick up at Gento station to the drop off of Pirandello and he not remembering Saro's identity. As Saro drives off and the shot of him turning and looking back is a fraction of a minute's time when we are shown how important those thread's with our past are. We discard and dismiss too many who were truly linked to our souls. I am very happy you went back to the source of your memories. Italy grabs you and never lets go. All good greetings from London UK.Viva Italia
