This reminds me so much of the tiny games we played in the past on vacation or back in the car when traveling. This was when I was a small kid in the 80s 😊
@fancifilmsАй бұрын
That is definitely the vibe. I'm hoping to keep the games kid-friendly so younger generations can experience that!

Just discovered these. I am a huge fan of small PnP games and will often sit with a 2mm dotted graph notebook and play something like vector racing (usually I make it a space race with obstacles). These little games are absolutely fantastic. These would have been HOT in the Army. Soldiers get so bored and you can only play so much one-hand solitaire with a deck. These would have been a great pocketable game.

@buckcherry2564Ай бұрын
@@fancifilms I believe that! I bet the space one sells good there too when it is out. Especially if you add in a little tactical decision making (usable missiles/bombs/etc). Print a version with a brown or OD green cover and see about making some kind of deal to get them into PXs. Good stuff.

@alanbarnett328Ай бұрын
A magnetic flap could dual-function as a cover for the notebook, and a layer to go under your current page so a little metal piece could stick to the page! Would be pretty easy to DIY I imagine
@buckcherry2564Ай бұрын
PREMIUM ITEM OPPORTUNITY! a PEN, with a metal top that has a tiny 'pin' sticking out a few mm. Then a small metal washer that sits on that. Then a little metal nub of a topper with a tiny magnet in it that holds them all together. When playing you take the pen-colored magnetic nub off, take the washer off, put the washer under the page and the nub is your ship, character, golfball, held to the paper by magnetizing to the washer on the other side. If they could be made thin enough and the magnet a stronger one, it would even be used to save your place mid-game and let you close your notepad with it still in place. Fun thought experiment. While I admit I would so buy it, it may not be the best ROI even as a premium item as the series catches on and you get dozens of these out.

Wow this is so cool and creative! I dont think ive ever seen a paper game like this, I thought they were only limited to things like word searches and sudoku. This would be neat to take on flight when u wanna do something other than stare at your phone the whole time

Such a clever design! Im a game designer/graphic designer, kicking around what it would look like to produce my on small games on occasion (after i graduate this year). Im curious about your experience making these, and your goals with the product line. I see on your website that you do a variety of games, both physical and digital. Is this something you're doing full/part-time?
@fancifilmsАй бұрын
I currently do this part time as a hobby. I am a UX designer full time. I consider it a success that I can produce and ship the games and that people are enjoying them!
@alexrogersАй бұрын
Are all of the books the same? I saw that you can order multiple copies on the Kickstarter campaign.

Each book is randomly generated. So it's the same overall game, but with different levels and alien encounters in each one. Like many roguelike video games that generate new levels each time you play.

What's the symbol top-left of the page (little square with white dot)?

@jason_v12345Ай бұрын
I feel like that would defeat what I assume is fundamentally a mission to encourage less staring at screens.
@fancifilmsАй бұрын
I have made several mobile games and the goal with Paper Apps is definitely to offer single player experiences that are off-screen. And also to create games that aren't platform dependent. I like the idea that someone could find a Paper Apps game 100 years from now and it would still "work". That being said, I'm no anti-screen crusader and I still make video games as well. I agree that the positioning and firing mechanics could work well in a video game as well, and is worth exploring!
@desertfish74Ай бұрын
I think the charm of this would be lost if it was also available as a video game
