"Chief excrement officers" Tun and Michael Flancman were already turning elephant poop into paper when, in 2009, the recession made them look for new revenue sources. The couple opened PooPooPaper Park, where visitors learn how to make paper from elephant waste. We visit Chiang Mai province in Thailand to see how one company turned its process of making treeless paper into an attraction that also supports Asian elephants.

Honestly this is very similar to how handmade paper is made normally, but instead of humans breaking down the plant fibers into pulp they just let the elephants stomach do the work. Since elephants don't eat meat they're poop is just stringy plant fibers and like horses and other herbivores it's not as smelly as an animal that eats meat like a dog or even us people. Excellent idea honestly...

If you touch the ground anywhere, you have touched variants of poop. These people boil and strain the crap out for over a week. Then match it up with other things that smell different to help in the paper or manure's manufacture. This couple is amazing though. They've been able to work through alot together to keep this up. Great examples of human adaptation and how it looks when the producers and consumers profit and grow.

You can use fallen branches, branches from pruning, old recycled wood, dead or decaying trees, or fast growing plants like bamboo. Maybe they could also learn to use energy and heat from things like solar panels. Or burning dung. Scientists are also working on harvesting energy from algae or seaweed. Because it's abundance, the ocean is big, and you don't have to take up land.

Fun fact. The first car that I believe Ford made was made to run on hemp oil. The US declaration on independence was originally made on hemp paper (was also written in both English and spanish) Ship masts and ropes were also made out of hemp. Crazy just thinking how things could of gone if different things were used. More fun facts. The first electric car came out late 1800s early 1900s. And the first self driving car was made by a Japanese guy in the 1980s but the Japanese government wasn't interested in it. Hopefully this paper business won't get bought out by bigger paper companies.

@user-gu9yq5sj7c
@user-gu9yq5sj7c Жыл бұрын
It doesn't have to be self sufficient or become common paper. The point is about recycling. Watch NHK World-Japan Zero Waste Life on umbrellas. Saito Aki recycles umbrellas into bags. She said she would be glad there's no more trash, even tho they're her materials. Cause who would want trash? You can use a different material if there's no more trash. Saito is doing this not cause she wants to or that there's no materials to use but because she feels like she has to, to help recycle and reduce trash. Saito said she wants everyone to know about the excess trash problem. Not every business person is concern the most about expanding their business. But they can be concern about other things like the environment. Some business owners said they started their business to help the environment, like recycle. Not really cause they're interested in business. Such as Kimura Naoko from NHK World-Japan Zero Waste Life on crayons. It's obvious that the people in this video are interested in and set out to recycle. Not really business. They don't seem to try to farm elephants to farm more poop.
