TBF this and super are the only ones that ACTUALLY kill the main partner off. In Sticker Star, Kersti is used at the weapon to beat Bowser, she comes back afterwards. Same thing happens to Huey but doesn't "die", he just goes back to the paint fountain.

Here's something you should know. Tippi and Olivia are dead, but if you were to get 100% completion on paper Mario color splash, there would be an extra cutscene that implies that huey is still alive. In sticker star, kersti dies, but is bought back to life.
