The biggest glowup here is the addition of more character animations. At 1:47, the original game keeps the characters in their default pose/expression with a ! bubble, while the new game actually has a unique pose and expression for both Mario and his partner. The lack of different expressions in dialogue is one of the few parts of base TTYD's visuals that I feel aged poorly, so it's fantastic to see them improving it.
@markkoetsier6475 Жыл бұрын
Good call! And the slightly nightmare fuel low-poly pigs are actually papery now. 😆 Also, obviously, big crowds no longer need to be rendered using low-res assets running at half the normal animation rate! Though... I did find that oddly charming. Heck, even the pigs were kinda hilarious _because_ of how crappy they were, which could very well have been intentional.

Also minor shading and lighting differences on these and other sprites to give more dimension (see Hooktail's excellent lighting). - New NPCs or otherwise gussied-up NPCs to match the unique aesthetics! (See Glitz Pit purple toad) - Battle transition in music got a dynamic speed shift. - Commitment to the paper pop-up book stylization (examples, railing thickness differences on Mario's house, trees getting the crossover-paper pop technique, and the title screen popout fold). All in all, it looks wonderful and so much fun! Even side by side they both look so beautiful.

I just hope they fix all the backtracking in that game. ESPECIALLY the General White questline. For those who remember and know what im talking about, you have to go through the ENTIRE game's map TWICE just to find that stupid Bob-omb. And that's not all, they need to fix the trouble center quests too bc that also has you going everywhere for alot of people INCLUDING General White making that over 3 times I went through the ENTIRE games map to find him not counting the other trouble center side quests.
@BlaizeTheDragon Жыл бұрын
It's such an easy fix too. Just have more warp pipes like the first game.
@Lukandon Жыл бұрын
@@BlaizeTheDragon But the amount of warp pipes is the about the same? What they should do is decrease the amount of locations you revisit at the very least, or change that entire section. The snowy location was short lived.
@BlaizeTheDragon Жыл бұрын
@@Lukandon No, the first game let you fast travel to every village whereas TTYD forgot to add one for glitzville (the biggest offender) and Fahr outpost. They can also add one that connects twilight town to creepy steeple (so once you go through the woods once, you can just use the pipe). They could also do with adding Super Paper Marios return pipe to ease the backtracking. I don't want them to remove parts. Just make it more convenient for the player.
@Lukandon Жыл бұрын
@@BlaizeTheDragon But the Rogueport Sewers are right under Rogueport so getting to Glitzville shouldn't be that hard. A pipe to Fahr Outpost is a bit pointless as the pipe that leads there is only 3 areas away. I agree regarding Creepy Steeple though.
@BlaizeTheDragon Жыл бұрын
@@Lukandon In regards to glitzville you still have to sit through some canned animations and constantly have to show the cheepcheep your boarding pass. It just makes the treck more tedious. Fahr outpost would still be an opportunity to skip being mobbed by several highspeed frost piranhas. Plus it would mean that during the general white backtrack hunt you can just pipe hop meaning a lot less screen transitions overall.

The original Thousand-Year Door still holds up as a timeless classic (and one of my favorite games of all time). Looking at it (the OG) though, the graphical limitations really show. But with the enhanced remake in mind, more expressions and modeling of the characters (besides Mario and Peach in the OG) are truly gonna blow it out of the water!
@Rhubarb120 Жыл бұрын
The one issue I have with this is the obsession modern game devs have with making the text tiny. Just compare the text between two screens. The text on then Gamecube version is large enough to read from across the room, while the switch has very small letters. I have very bad eyesight, so small text is a huge deal breaker for me. I really hope this is just an issue with the formatting of KZbin videos, but seeing how this has been a problem for many recent games, I doubt it.
@SailorDonut Жыл бұрын
I have noticed that devs seem to think something being higher resolution means they can make the text smaller. Uh, no? We need it BIGGER! My eyes can't handle this!

Wait a minute... In the remake mario has a painting with all his Partners from paper mario 1 in the house which does't exist in the original. Maybe that could be a hint that nintendo is also remaking the first game in the near future. (I know it's just a little detail in the trailer, but it can't be there without a reason right?) This thing is the ONLY new thing (aside from the griphical improvement of course and two little changes: a new sign at a door, new camera angle for the airship animation and the missing letter from peach in the intro. In fact the text is there, but the pinky letter itself isn't there)

Weird, looks like they knocked the framerate down to 30FPS instead of keeping it at TTYD's original FPS (60). To be fair, Oregano King has a hard time running on Switch hardware at 60, so if this is a recreation of TTYD using the OK engine, it makes sense that they could not bump the FPS any higher than 30, but still disappointing.
