I'm currently going to school for Process Tech to be an operator in the Oil and Gas Industry, and my classwork included learning briefly about the Paper and Pulp Industry. I thought it would be pretty lame. For example, my teacher for this class spent 40 minutes talking about power generation, but spent less than eight minutes on paper and pulp. He talked briefly about how paper was made, but it intrigued me enough to find out a little bit more. Seeing the operators sitting at computer screens the same way I have seen operators for BP and ConocoPhillips sit in process facilities on Alaska's North Slope made me realize that the Paper and Pulp industry is high tech as well. Very cool video, guys. Maybe I'll work for you one day!

Sadly, many instructors don't know that much about Pulp and Paper Manufacturing and will gloss over it. I've worked in Automation for 25 years for the largest Process Controls Automation provider to the Pulp and Paper industry and it is extremely high tech. The industry needs bright young new operators at it's mills across the nation and you should definitely look everywhere for opportunities.

I just pulled a paper load from the Georgia Pacific plant in Dothan, AL yesterday and took it to a Georgia Pacific warehouse in MT Olive, IL today! That’s what made me look this up after seeing how big that plant was! I was like damn this place is humongous, just to make paper! I feel better now that I know that they actually grow their trees on a farm vs just cutting down random trees across the country that been alive longer than humans, bcuz I have a spiritual connection with trees and it bothers me that they are cut down! Nevertheless now that I know they are cutting down the trees that they grow every year now i feel so much better! Aye but y’all have to see that plant in Dothan, AL though and also see the amount of logs being bought in for production, fucking unbelievable!
