Paper Tuning for a Recurve Bow to Set the Nocking Point

Using a typical paper test (vertical tear-out) to adjust the nocking point height on the bow string.

Always add weight to the bottom of the paper to make sure the paper flapping up gives you inaccurate reading

yeah, surprisingly smooth action with those bamboo limbs. I have 2 sets, those 45# and another set of 20# for form practice.

I imagine doing all this stuff, super tune the thing, and 2 days after, you remove the string, unscrew your limbs, and do what a take down bow was designed to do, to go to the archery field with your bag. This thought keeps me away from paper tuning and all this stuff. i keep the idea for my compound. Am i thinking wrong?

Yes, you're thinking wrong. Taking a recurve apart and putting it back together won't have any affect on the tuning work you did - SO LONG AS you maintain the same brace height.

Hi, I agree with you on this. It is fine tuning and the most important thing for accuracy is to practice. However I think it could be fun to work on the tuning if it makes you work on the bow and shoot a bit in the process. Additionally, ILF take down bows are like an Olympic bow and even if you take them down and up they are keeping the same alignment. I converted this bow to ILF for this reason and it was worth it. And... Voilà! ;o) Seriously, thanks for your detailed question. ..ok kidding again here. But I think I know what you mean.... The whole goal of this... Setting the right knock height will give you a more consistant and repeatable arrow flight. Too low and it will kick the shelf and tip down before stabilizing inconsistently. Too high is less problematic but not optimal. Hope this clarifies. Cheers!
