The wooden carved statue is Flemish, not flash, from the Dutch/Belgium area. I think it is a depiction of St. Lucy. She is carrying a cross which denotes that she was a matryr (she had her eyes gouged out) and she is also carrying a wheat sheaf which depicts the food she used to take to the poor. She is the patron saint of the blind.
@radio-pirol Жыл бұрын
Not sure about the St. Lucy as she is mostly displayed showing her eyes on a plate or something like that. I'm more thinking about a St. Walpurga as she is much more often displayed with wheat's and a cross. But I'm far away from being an expert… The statue though could be very old but it was undergoing a modern "restoration". It would have been colored back then.

@@radio-pirol St Walpurga is mostly shown carrying a Crozier (bishop's staff) not a cross. She wasn't a matryr, but was canonised because she performed a miracle, saving lives at sea in a storm. St Lucy, or Lucia, carries the cross as she was a matryr, dying for her faith.

The stones are gnostic gemstones representing Abraxas: Abraxas is a Deity in the Gnostic faith. In Gnostic cosmology, the 7 letters spelling its name represent each of the 7 classic planets-Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn .It was engraved on certain antique gemstones, called on that account Abraxas stones, which were used as amulets or charms. Great to see another storage locker video which might be a first financial step to your forthcoming trip to Europe. 💰 I don´t think that the Flemish carving is that old, it looks more like a late 19th century repro for decorative purposes in a Victorian household. Nonetheless it could generate a pretty penny on an online platform. Seems that the previous owner got a certain affinity to Asiatica, check all boxes, perhaps you will find some of these porcelain items as shown on the photos. Anyways, not a bad day for a whopping ten bucks, besides the scrap just the oak figure might generate around 100,- $ or even more. @PaperandMoose Жыл бұрын
Correct, we do all have issues. It's just a general question that not only I ask, but many others ask as well. That question prompts another bigger question as to if storage auctions are rigged. This is a question many do ask especially in regard to seeing/buying units that are filled with expired canned goods, legitimate trash, broken items, or a unit containing only a few items. Did someone pay to store 5 boxes of long expired canned goods and scraps of wood and busted, empty cardboard boxes or was that unit "set-up" by a facility or did the previous owner remove what they wanted and left the rest?

@PaperandMoose Жыл бұрын
@@elizabethscruggs1622 I would say that if you do want to get out of the storage unit, see if you can take small steps first - even once a week - to dedicate an hour or so, whatever you can handle, and begin the process of going through the unit. Take a box or two home, sort, and decide what you want to keep, what could be donated, or what is trash. If help is required, perhaps you could ask your sons if they would have some time, again it doesn't have to be a day long task, but just a few hours to spare to help out - whether that be moving the items or helping to sort. Inquire with other friends/family if they would be able to assist or know anyone that could help move things/take items to donation centers. Start small, don't get too stressed, and I'm sure you'll make progress in getting things cleaned out!

Elohim is Hebrew for God. Although google says its plural? Do look up for more info. The stones may have a connection to Israel. From what I read; some use the stones in prayer. There's a lot to read about all of the various types of stone and their meaning, but I think this is definitely a rabbit hole that you should check out. Also, the Flemish figure - do some serious research on it, as it may have some real value. I'm wondering if someone who owned this stuff left it behind and a family member had to clear out the rest of this persons items to satisfy a landlord or something? (I apologize if I offended anyone - I do not pretend to be an expert, by any means. However, I do think the stones are worth learning more about, if only to understand their use.)

Your oval-shaped glass items have depictions of Jewish apotropaic/protective magic. The figure with the two 'tails' is Abraxas. Many of these figures and ideas were also taken up and used similarly by the Christian/Greek world from Judaism.
