Hi Ryan! Greetings from Barcelona, Catalonia. You played really good, you were unlucky with the big city! In my opionion you should try to defend the options to close the big city with the tile in min 10:30, with it your opponent could not use the curve the way he did even if he could have used a straight line (6 were used) or a cross to disturb you. Anyway, it is not easy to play a final, and luck always plays an important role!
@ShinToubushi7 жыл бұрын
I agree that had I blocked that big city, things might have worked out differently. :) I watched through the whole game after it was uploaded just to see if I had missed something obvious, but I think that ultimately my regret is that I didn't follow through on the strategy that, I think, won me most of the games up that point (I lost the fourth round in the previous day prior to the elimination rounds). I noticed that most people I played against were in a big hurry to claim potential farms, but my strategy is usually to wait until near the end to tie up any meeples as farmers... if I have a chance to steal a farm or negate them at that point, so much the better, but usually I score I enough points by not tying up my meeples to offset the score from farms, even the big ones. BUT, I didn't do that this time and as a result I lost some opportunities to score points because I didn't have a meeple left to score with. *shrug* Maybe that would have made a difference, maybe not... certainly, considering the skill of my opponent, any changes I made would have affected his play as well. Thanks for the interest, and hello from Indianapolis, Indiana, USA!

Thank you for the awesome write up on your play style. It’s always interesting to hear/see the different play styles of games like this. It’s my favorite part about board games, you can have a game with simple rules to learn, yet sooooo much strategy can be used while playing that folks have different play styles and those styles can be changed depending on what the opponent is doing.

The way green plays is terrifying, since turn 3 he saw the plains and immediately changed his entire demeanor to fit it onto the plains. he always had an outlet for road pieces and had no trouble entertaining multiple cities. The pieces that didnt fit the bill were thrown towards the enemy in order to throw him off. It's methodical horror. I would even have said that black got better luck with his thick city picks but he just couldnt get away from green pressuring him into defending his choices.

@@melarym6530 Carcassonne is pretty cool, I recommend it. It comes with many expansions! So to understand, everyone is a lord with their own people, and together has to build Carcassonne from scratch (yea, it's a real city from France). Those meeples are their people, with them they build roads (those white lines), churches, fortresses and grazing the fields. When you finish each one of the above actions, you receive points. You can also prevent others from receiving points by stealing their properties or making them not finish them.

Green's farm management was superb. At 4:16 he loops a border road back on itself. This is textbook strategy but to pull it off with an 8-segment road takes either ridiculous luck or very careful planning and always looking for opportunities.

Big mistake for black at 20:13 that probably costed him the game. He should've gone for the farm on the far left with two castles for a guaranteed 6 points and potentially 9. Denying it from his opponent. Instead he went for a second road for a measly 4 points with his last meeple.
@AvgJoeCrowe4 жыл бұрын

It wasn't just 4 points, it was a total of 13 cause the road piece also connected one of his farmers to 3 new castles, making them share the points (2 farmers each) instead of only green getting those points. I wouldn't say that was a "big mistake"
@wfchannel46739 ай бұрын

Second how does black player score 8 points with his first city that is made out of 3 city tiles??? Also i dont understand why all over internationally the American Rules got standardized.... (Original German Rules, only give 2 points for 2 part citys, also original Rules did not have monopolies on Citys, roads, etc. You were always able to add miples to ongoing citys and stuf) it made it a real nice mix between coop and competitive game. It also made it a talking/bartering game.
