Origami Octagonal Tato / Origami Coaster Tutorial - DIY - Paper Kawaii

Learn how to make an origami coaster! This 8 sided origami 'Tato' is almost round and makes a great coaster for your desk!

This origami tato starts off with an octagon, which is not that hard.
I prefer to cut off the extra corners but you could leave them there.
This method of making the tato ends up showing quite a few creases on the finished piece. I really like the pattern.
I'm going to cover mine in PVA glue.. 🤓

May I make a suggestion? We could started with a preliminary square, bird (?) base, then cut off 4 corners at once. This way the octagon pre-folds are ready.....

Yeah, nah. It was origami until 4:20 when you used scissors!! Papercraft is not origami.

As it states in the video - you don't HAVE to cut them off, you can just leave them there. Even if you did have to, it's still origami as it can start from many different shapes, triangle, rectangle, pentagon, and you'd need to trim the paper in order to get that shape.
