I have always been a fan of films starring Steve Mcqueen from The Great Escape, to Bullitt, The Towering Inferno and The Getaway. My view was always that he was undoubtedly a star performer with lots of personality and charisma but he was limited in his acting range. My opinion changed however the first time I watched Papillon and after watching it again last night this reinforced my view that he was a superb actor with a far greater range than was ever afforded him in other roles. Papillon must surely rate as a career best for him.

Brilliant movie, Steve McQueen's best role in my opinnion. Far and away better than the remake with Charlie Hunnam. McQueen is a tough act to follow in any role.
