I lost my Papillion last year, I miss him every day. Never was a problem from the start and reminded me of a tiny lassie. Smartest and most loving dog I ever had

This is a great video! Lucy has been my companion for almost 14 years. She's a wonderful dog and has been trained as a therapy dog.

Hard to take this seriously when so many of the dogs featured in the video are not papillons but instead are long haired chihuahua. Also, the breed name is mis-pronounced several times.

Yes I see this same chihuahua all the time in many Papillon video's, it annoys me because you can see the ears are smaller, hair is shorter and the skull is a lot different...

We are now onto our third Papillon puppy who is 5 months old. We also have a 14yrs old Papillon and lost a 15 yrs old Papillon last year. However this new puppy is turning out to be hard to train especially potty training. He walks niceon the lead though and obeys two commands. He has got into the habit of just sitting down and refusing to move when we start any sort of training. Something to be conquered over time. He really enjoys running and retrieving and will happily play fetch for as long as an hour. He also loves to climb and is regularly on the top edge of a chair or sofa. Fortunately we have oodles of time to devote to his well-being and his future training. I have no problem with him wanting to be a puppy for a while longer yet.

Half the dogs you've shown here are CHIHUAHUAS. 😂 In spite of that, much of the information you have given here is spot on. 100% agree with the video, papillons are not suitable for young children. Papillons break easily and they are VERY expensive to fix.

At 1:12 and on you show a lot of Chihuahuas or mongrels instead of purebred Papillons, and even a Japanese Chin at 6:36. Also, Papillons of responsible breeding are neither stubborn nor aggressive! They should be washed once a week to maintain their beautiful coat matt-free. Their only problem is that some may be difficult to house train unlike you preach. These dogs are obsessed with water as spaniels and would rather swim than run. They are not the best choice for first-time owners without any knowledge of dog psychology and training exactly due to their wits and high trainability: they are often strong willed and great manipulators. Healthy papillons never drool and hyperglycaemia is not a known problem to the papillon breeders, these dogs are not the feeble pomeranians. What you presented in this video has very little or nothing to do with pedigree papillon dogs. You mislead the public! Bad job!!! With regrets, a papillon breeder.

NEED to emphasize, they want to be near you ALL THE TIME, and frequently suffer greatly if left alone, and may act out by barking all day or chewing up everything in site if left alone. It's called separation anxiety. They HATE to be alone.

He has a cat little sister to keep him company when I have to go out. 1st pap would just curl up in his bed with favorite top. So I've been lucky, no chewy or tearing up stuff. Cat is the trouble maker in the house LOL.

Our Papillon did manage to be alone for 7-8 hours without "doing anything wrong" and only barking if anyone came at the door. She was trained up to be like that. No problem at all :)

There are a few things that are not correct with this video, though most points are pretty much spot on. One thing is that there are more color variations of the Papillon, and the alpha ones could have aggressive behaviors, so not all. I do have an alpha girl, who has had aggressive behaviors that I had to train out of her. She is the sweetest, loving girl, but definitely had triggers, and she is definitely very protective of me and our home, so barking, yes. I have had many different types of breeds of dogs throughout my life, and Papillons are not for first time dog owners.

Thank you for a delightful & informative video. One wee correction: Marie Antoinette did *not* take her Papillon with her to her death, as her dogs were all taken away from her while she was imprisoned in the Temple. The Queen's hands were tightly tied behind her back en route to her execution, & they remained tied even as she ascended the steps to the guillotine. Otoh...you are correct: Marie Antoinette *doted* on her Papillons while she lived at the Chateau of Versailles.

I have 2 and you need to know they will fallow you ever where and I mean every where. They are very easy to train one of my Papillons is my service dog. The other is in training. I will never own another breed of dog. So if you don’t mind door bells, bathroom watchers, are in the kitchen attendant then you might think about this breed. Like I tell people who see us out do your research on the breed.

Theyre awesome and very energetic...but hard to housetrain imo. Dont give up! It takes them a little longer to mature. These are athletic dogs. They need a lot of daily physical play/exercise. Theyre super smart! They require mental stimulation and love to learn. Theyre not lapdogs. They like to be close but wont lay in your lap all the time past puppyhood unless theyre feeling insecure. Theyre geerally sweet and loving. My vet calls mine "sweet sophie," and has remarked that shes one of the sweetest toys she has come in. Dont let a pap have free reign to go under the sofa or other small dog cave. It makes them become aggressive and territorial. They will get angry if anyone looks under "their" couch at them or even walks by. 😂 Mine is super picky eater but not all of them are. Make sure to brush their teeth and they will stay healthy and strong for a lifetime. Mine developed a luxating lens of the eye. It was serious and she had to have surgery at 10 yrs old to remove the lens (not the eye thank God).The vet said it is a genetic predisposition with papillons, so be aware of any eye changes. Mine also has luxating patella (kneecap) which is painful for her when she over does exercise. So there are health considerations. Mine is otherwise healthy at 11 years old. 😊❤

Where can one find a breeder?
@1Barista12 жыл бұрын
AKC website is a good beginning. Even better, go to a dog show near you and ask to talk to someone who breeds Papillons. Meet face to face that way. Be aware that dog breeders are a cliquey bunch and may seem suspicious of strangers.

Plus a lot of the breeders know each other, so if one breeder doesn't have a puppy they might know someone who does. I knew what papillon I wanted and I just kept emailing that breeder til she knew who I really was. Be prepared-- many breeders want pictures of your fenced yard, other dogs, etc. etc. And vet references. And I drove a long ways to get my puppy and drove all the way home with her on my lap. 🥰

My family had one when all 5 of us kids were fairly young. The dog was demonic. Always attacking anyone that tried to pet it, guests and even my mom occasionally. Peed and pooped in the house all the time, hideous scream of a bark, and lived forever 🙁
