I'm surprised that this film is not more widely known. A real gem, with the narrator's charmingly enthusiastic delivery. Wonderful old machines, built and maintained with such pride. I don't know what sound "drop valves" should make, and wonder if they were always a little noisy. Could a knowledgable person inform us please? Thanks so much for posting.

I have the original 16mm film stock for this film. The GSO Film Unit was formed in 1952/53 and made a number of industrial archeology films. Sadly, there is only 1 remaining member of the Unit left alive. (Nov. 2022)

What a colossal banging and clatter. Do you suppose that was added to the video afterwards, or was the engine really that loose and noisy by this time?

Alot of that noise will be the pump rods clattering around inside the rising main tubes as they go up and down
