To me this is a follow-up to the Bible's prediction of tribulation at the end of mankind. Very prophetic. So happy I am on the path of Trust and Obey the God of the Bible, for the glory of Jesus Christ

Maybe to you the prophectic aspects of story isn't as bad in the UK but in America corporations and and economic crisis seems very real. Some small towns and cities literally have become on companies like Walmart to keep them going. This book honestly speaks more to late stage capitalism occuring in the USA.

Your takeaways about the religious aspects of this book really make me want to pick this up for some reason. Although the audience might not buy it, I'm mainly interested in why a character might feel so strongly about their worldview.

The true meaning of the parable of the sower is this: when anyone hears the message regarding the Kingdom and does not understand it - the evil one (the selfhood) snatches away what was sown in his heart; this is what was sown along the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground - this is he who hears the message and immediately receives it with joy; yet he has no root in himself - but endures for a while - and when tribulation or persecutions come on account of the message - immediately he falls away. As for what was sown among thorns - this is he who hears the message - but the cares of the world and the delight in riches - choke the message and it bears no fruit. As for what was sown on good soil - this is he who hears and receives the message and understands it; he indeed bears fruit - and yields - in one case a hundredfold - in another - sixty - and another thirty fold.

Ah got further into the video, yeah I don't remember the second one being more scifi really? I thought the same about Lauren, but she was a believable teenager at least

The main focus of her "religious" philosophy was adaptation. Everything came back to adapting and taking action, surviving. The Biblical references were symbolic. The herione observed what a drive a relgion could be in a comunity. She decided on a more fluid, flexible acceptance and action driven concept. I think she explains it best by saying "People forget ideas. They're more likely to remember God - especialy when they're scared or desperate" or "Do you know what it means to have something to belive in?'. So she names Change as God.

I haven't! Love Viggo Mortensen but not sure I could handle the grimness of it.

@@Chareads it is seriously grim. Possibly even more visceral than the book, something that I really didn't think was possible. I love Cormac McCarthy, I plan on reading Blood Meridian soon.

Such a shame you also seem to have glanced over all the well blended themes of intersectionality and just chalk up Lauryn to being a bland character. I just knew this book wouldn't resonate or hit the same marks with non POC.

I was a bit bummed when the first result for a review was a non POC . I expect to miss things so I would appreciate perspective from those who understand more than myself ..

Your main threat in the UK is your government which clamping down hard on you right now. Food shortages are already happening in the UK. They're being blamed on Brexit (prob a contributing factor), but are also occurring elsewhere such as the US. You can't shut everything down for months without consequences. Any pretence of democracy is crumbling across the developed world right now. I think like much of your age group, you have hang ups about spirituality, but it inspires most of our greatest art and literature and has got us through a crisis which various powers are abusing for their own ends.
