Dan, the right way of drilling acrylic is actually low speed, alowing the drill to cut, especially with thicker acrylic, when you want precision for the holes. sorry for my english, i`m east european

@truvak The spray can stuff is crap for 3 step $129 MORE LIKE DULL PEWTER. The $2800 booth system seems good but there is a lot of prep work and larger items do not come out as well.

@madjimms :-) agreed, but box with square corners would be a $ making patent.

Great video, thanks very helpful. I'm about to make one but with mirror card. What confused me was that you said not to use the tape for the reflector as it was dull, then used the tape. I guess its ok then?

I've been cutting acrylic that way for years. Picture framers use acrylic instead of glass for certain jobs. Just look at a framing tools site. Fletcher Heavy Duty Acrylic/Plexi Cutter

I am wondering if it would be a good idea to add a washer between the screw head and the acrylic sheeting to disperse pressure away from the hole in acrylic and over greater surface area...It looks like you are using an angled underside on your screws. I wonder if it was be better to use a flat surface screw.

I saw your film, it was great and innovative, but you didn't explain how you designed the angle of the parabolic semicircles. Thank you for your explanation.

drywall screws have the beveled countersink style bottoms. They are NOT drywall screws. The ones he says to use are pan head screws.

Thanks again for the videos. Two questions: Can you get the acrylic to form into a curve using heat and the frame as a buck? Two, could you roll the shiny metal through a sheet metal roller to pre-form the curve and take the stress off the screws?

LOL, I love your "helper" reminds me of my old cat she always had to be right in the middle of anything I was doing. Nice work, I am doing something similar, but instead of the acrylic I am planning on using commonly available 24 inch rolls of aluminum trim coil. Hopefully it will prove thin enough that I can add the mylar in one sheet then be able to fit it to the collector without wrinkling, if not, I can just lay it in like you did then finish the edges with the aluminum tape. I am going to have to check out the kit if nothing else I can use it as a template to make more pieces as my collector will be 60 foot long. Argh, out of stock. What was the cost per unit on the kit? and will it be available again?

I guess that evacuated/vacuum tube water pipe would be nice at the focus of the mirror also.

would polished aluminum be more reflective and durable and even cost effective if you could, say for instance, cut sheets from soda cans and fuse them together with careful use of a lens and some weight? Seems like a lot of work, but it wouldn't cost anything.

Please anyone, I'll like to know the relationship between the useful heat from the solar collector(Flat plate) and the temperature of the generator for solar absorption air-conditioning system. I mean for a particlar value of heat say 608.6w/m2 from a solar collector, what is the corresponding temperature in the generator of a solar absorption air-con. system mathemaically? thanks

Aluminum is shiny, but it doesn't have the highest albedo; you get the best results from alumized Mylar. And no, you couldn't fuse aluminum cans together with a lens. You'd need a TIG, or a Plasma welder.

institchesplus I am not sure, the guy with the CNC is out of reach right now. There is a DIY method on our channel: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpW1goubq7aUaas We also have a parabola formula download on our home page that can be printed out and used as a template.
