Paradigm Hybrid Dalek - Birth of a New Breed

What happens if you cross the shape of the original Cusick Daleks with the design features of the new McKinstry Daleks? Here is my hybrid.
I never disliked any specific design change of the 2010 Daleks, it was really all about the shape. The fixtures and fittings on the Daleks have been altered repeatedly down the years so I don't mind new eye-stalks, lights, gun, etc. I like the raised skirt panels - and the the new rear hatch is interesting as it harks back to Cusick's original unused plans.
For me, it's the shape which makes the New Dalek Paradigm so disagreeable. Their tops are not in scale to the skirts, and they lean forward. So, I thought it would be interesting to give them a straight spine once again and return them to their small stature and original proportions. They are, after all, supposed to be small, compact travel machines - not massive, cumbersome, immovable tanks.

Wow, that's actually a really cool concept. I'm a huge fan of the older Daleks. Seeing them as a hybrid with the new ones looks fantastic.

Same here. I'm fine with changes made to their travel machines, my problem is that the Paradigm Daleks were big and clunky looking plus they looked like something from IKEA.

I like it. That style was absolutely meant for classic colors. it brings back the feeling that Daleks are, as they originally were, a race of cold, calculating scientists, and is quite possibly the only way the new necks are going to look good, adding just a hint of a retro flavor to a more vintage chassis. Bravo.

Dear Mr. Mindrobber; When these NDP daleks were first introduced, I never understood why I Liked the specific features and fittings of it, yet Hated the design as a whole... Your take on the NDP not only vastly improves the design to the point of near-perfection, but also represents a very worthy alternative (I am tempted to say "improves upon") to the "mainstream" dalek design . I have had similar thoughts - and would suggest the key problem is the "paradigm" Daleks abandon the classic proportions of the original design - that "Dalek Golden Ratio"? This new version keeps the updated features but frames them in the original design proportions. That might be what is working on your subconscious?

@Gallifreyan1 - The whole point is that the design is exactly the same as the McKinstry 2010 Daleks, including neck and shoulders - just the proportions change to make them like Cusick's Daleks. The idea is to have every design element from the 2010 Dalek, except the relative sizes of the components.

aaah, the Supreme feels left out! lol Nice design! I like the new Daleks, but they do need to look less hunch-backed and more metallic. I preferred them being taller though. I always hated the way the Daleks were so short compared to everyone else!

I like your design better than what was shown in the show. Has all the important elements of the new Daleks, but still has the nice and even proportions of the normal Daleks. Doesn't look as bloated. Very well done.

@doctorwhoone - The neck rings stay as per the 2010 design because the idea of this Dalek is that it is entirely the McKinstry Dalek style but with the Cusick proportions. I didn't want to change any design feature, just the sizes.

Nice job! I have to agree with the shape issue. The first Daleks were to be reminiscent of the "graceful movement of Georgian State Dancers." The new paradigm Daleks absolutely have no grace to them. The size is fine in my mind - supposedly to be better for the operator? Fine in my mind. The colors don't help - too plastic-like (unfortunately, the kids love 'em). Nonetheless I love what you've done!

The only things I really objected to with the new design were the hunchback and how the arm/gun support projected out. Otherwise *shrug* it wasn't the worst problem of the season.

You know, I have been thinking about this issue for a long time. CAN DALEKS evolve? Personally, I would like to see DALEKS change a little, not be so power mad all the time. It might even be nice to see a funny DALEKS once in awhile. Example, when someone says there is more to life than extermination, the DALEKS replies, whatever, dismissively. LOL!

Any such display of individuality would be exterminated by the other Daleks. The Cult of Skaro were the only ones who managed to exhibit any divergence from the strict hierarchy, and that was only so the hierarchy could exploit their inisghts.

not a bad redesign... personally though, considering that the Daleks are supposed to be devastating weapons of war the flimsy 'dink-leks' never did it for me from the old series - and the bling-leks (salvaged only by Sec whose color scheme should have become the series standard) were almost as bad... we won't mention the 'pimp of the Daleks' seen in the series 4 ender :P

The animation was good for what it was. the only thing is that the hybrid's features (neck, shoulders, fender e.t.c) are a bit aout of proprtion. the neck is too high and the shoulder also.
