You can really hear the bass in this version. I love it. Problem with A LOT of 90's metal releases...buried bass guitar. The result of too much compression I guess. Although, records like Death "Individual Thought Patterns" and Demolition Hammer's "Epidemic of Violence" have GREAT bass tones too.

Stephen Edmonson has always had his own distinctive sound although he's a fingerstyle player (for me the only way). His sound is the foundation of Paradise Lost...He is the balls of PL. Have a lot of respect for him as a bass and a guitar player. I was so happy learn 'pity the sadness' and 'as i die' back in the days. One of my icons when it comes to bass playing.

It is not always a production problem, it is often related to the 'tone' of the bass player. For example, you could just take the bass out of Dream Theater (John Myung) and their music practically wouldn't change. Another example in two albums very close chronologically, namely the abysmal difference in Black Sabbath between Headless Cross (Laurence Cottle), where the bass is simply fantastic, and Tyr (Neil Murray), where the bass is much less present, despite the undisputed abilities techniques of both Myung and Murray, but technique is not everything, at least imho
