As a death metal fan, I love their 1st 2 albums as well. U can't argue with any of their 1st 5 albums really - different approaches but all top quality!

They were THE most forward thinking metal band of the early 90s! Coming from grindcore and death metal, then expanding it with influences from doom like Candlemass, Trouble and Sabbath, plus making a crossover with goth/darkwave scene like The Sisters Of Mercy and Fields Of The Nephilim. One of THE bands that helped metal to survive and push it forward back in the day!

What words of wisdom these guys shared this day have aged well. I think this is also true for music in 2024.

My favourite from PL, it's unique & doesn't sound like any of their other albums. The songs are generally longer & more progressive, the sound is more raw, stripped down & metallic. It doesn't really have any other outside elements like female vocals or orchestration (not that those are bad things obviously) & Nick's vocals are the most melodic they'd ever been at this point (although hinted at on Gothic) yet still have a death metal 'vibe' to them.

+vomitedshit I think because he has facial hair - if he didn't his hairstyle, earrings and shirt style would go all together nicely. On a serious note, very cool to see an interview from that era, I like the 'Shades of God' album very much.
