what a superb set up. People used to have homing budgerigars in UK in past, he obviously has some good skills. Thank you for this.

I was surprised to see gouldians in an outside aviary during winter. I remember several years ago I was in FL in February during a 'cold spell.. well for FL it was a cold spell. People were wrapping their gouldian flights in plastic sheets and using heat lamps. That method allowing birds an opening to the outside after chicks hatch in order for them find live food, is something that is described in older avicultural publications. Very interesting, thanks for posting the video.

Thanks :) Yes - the gouldians are not the best species to cooler climate - but if they are kept in cooler climates for longer times and perhaps for generations you will build up stronger birds that can actually handle it white well. I have never lost a gouldian to frost - but if I sometimes have a bird that cannot handle the weather I will simply bring it inside - but this is fortunately very rare. 😉👍

Well, it seems the birds can go in and out as well, and therefore "acclimatize" themselves, so to speak. Of course, I’m sure the rarest or most sensitive species wouldn’t be expected to do that. But I’m sure they get adjusted if they’re allowed in and out access throughout the year. The gouldians, zebras and star finches also looked quite plump outside, during the winter, so they must fatten up somewhat.

Love it, what a fantastic aviary❤️ I’ve heard of people breeding birds in aviaries then letting then fly out to fetch food for their young. With the young being like a magnet it’s usually successful, however is something I’d be very scared about😆

Thanks 😀 See them fly in and out here 👍 kzbin.infoZo0WNSFw97c?feature=share And you are correct, there are many dangers as well in letting them out. But it was a fantastic experience 😅

Looks like he has a cardinal and an indigo bunting. Are these birds found in Europe as well as America? How did he get them? Last I knew (at least here in the US), we can't keep wild birds, we have laws preventing that.

These birds are reared in EU and have been kept for aviary birds for generations 😉
