Paraglide Elbrus - East & West summit

Paragliding from both tops of Mt Elbrus (5621m & 5642m) in summer 2019
In June 2019 I got the chance to visit the remote North side of Mt.Elbrus in the Russian Kaukasus. In 8 days I climbed, skied and flew down from Elbrus summit. First we climbed (by ski) Elbrus-West (5642m) in 8h from Camp2 (3750m) and had a perfect ski run all the way down to the camp, almost 2000m. In the evening of the same day I solo-climbed Elbrus-East with my paraglider (ADVANCE PI2-23) in the backpack. After 6h climbing I reached the summit (5621m) and got the chance to take off at 6:30 from 5600m, just below the summit. 27min later I landed 3000m lower in basecamp Emanuel Glade (2550m).
In July 2019 I visited Elbrus North side again and did a solo- ascent with my Advance PI2-27 from basecamp (2550m) to the main summit of Elbrus (5642m). Because of the difficult wind situation I needed four attempts before taking off from the West summit. I flew arround the West summit and all the way down, back to basecamp Emanuel Glade.

Great video and idea! I plan it too for this year. Why have you chosen to fly to the north? Are the landing conditions in the Terskol that bad?

would you mind listing what wing and harness you using for that Thomas? very inspiring flight. i am a climber and paraglider myself but looking to get a lighter set up for hike/flight & paramountaineering so having your input would be mega helpful!

Hi Murilo,I used an Advance Easyness 2 harness with a rescue system for 140kg (due to the thinner air at 5000m) and an Advance PI2 wing (size 23 and size 27). I wanted to compare the two different sizes in high altitude paragliding. Size 23 still worked okay for my bodyweight of 84kg.

@Murilo Gimenes Lessa, I tried the Pi2-27 as well. But when need to fly against the wind, the 27 is too slow. The best compromise is the PI 2- 23. I flew the Pi2 - 23 also 4x from Kilimanjaro (5895m). For me flying at high altitude is only save enough with an A level or low B level wing.
