I think this one slipped under my radar, great video.... But back in the day, had that been one of our lot stuck in the tree, ooohhhh we wouldn't have let that be forgotten, echos of laughter would be heard for miles, hahaha.... But we're all grown up now, right? 😉

Hi Mark I’m also Mark Wirth ! I’m a retired airline pilot and I’m 74 yrs old . I’m also a retired hang glider pilot a Hang Four . I’ve been watching your videos on paragliding and I’m super impressed with the way you pay attention to details ! I can totally relate to what your saying ! Anyway I used to fly a Wills Wing HP but hung that up because the equipment is just so heavy ! I’ve been impressed with how far the paraglided equipment has come in the years and like the idea of being able to hike and fly ! I am concerned though about the penetration capabilities of paraglides and was wondering if you could give a little in site of capabilities of the para gliders penetration performance in high winds ! Say I was ridge soaring a coastal ridge and I was getting high on the mountains behind the coastal ridge where the wind would be stronger ! What sort of penetration performance should I expect with the latest and greatest para gliders ! Or should I just fly a para glider in 30 Kts or less ! Thanx Mark I really appreciate your detailed info in your videos. Sincerely Mark Wirth

Thank you for the words mark, well my wind speed cut off is a max of 15kts as paragliders fly at 20mph so anymore wind than that and you are going backwards. You also want to know any particular day you are heading out that it’s not gusty, if the wind speeds are 10kts but gusting 20 we would just not go out to keep it safe.

@@leavesleyaviationThanx Marc for the quick response time ! 15 knots max is what I was thinking !

Hi Marc. I recently subscibed to your channel, and must say how impressed I am with your videos. You are clear, slowly go over all the aspects of the subject you are demonstrating. You are partly responsible for me seriously considering returning to the sport, after a long absence. I learnt to fly in South Africa, and flew about 100 hours before quitting the sport. I quit because I went to live somewhere it was not practical to fly, and never go back into it….until now! I have not flown since about 2005, so some time ago. I’m wondering what is the best way to get back into the sport? I feel I need a “refresher” training course, just to bring back all the things I have long not used. I will also need to get a BHPA licence to allow me to fly at various local sites. I now live in Dundee, Scotland, so I have some amazing sites on my doorstep, with some great mountains etc. to explore. After “refreshing” myself, I feel like getting into the Hike and Fly side of the sport, so would likely get some fairly lightweight kit. I sold all my kit, albeit it would not be very suitable after such a long time. You asked, on your channel, what other content people may want to see. Well my request is a “guide” on how to get back into the sport. Most of my flying, in SA, was Thermic XC type stuff, flying in some pretty “hairy” thermic conditions, at time. I would appreciate your views, and if I lived closer to you I could ask you to “refresh” my skills, but alas I am a long way from you, so not practical. Hope to hear from you. Paul
