I spent many happy hours flying here on my Hang Glider in the 80's when I was stationed here with the RAF. I never flew when the tide was in and being on my own I had no real desire to land away from my car. I did occasionally go over the back and landed near the cottage My friend lived in. It remains my favourite place I ever flew, just so utterly peaceful playing with the Gulls. I even had a letter delivered addressed to Ivan the Hang Glider, RAF Brawdy.

Hi Ivan Hang glider! Lovely place to fly, though I haven't seen any hangies on that part of the coast over the last twenty years - can imagine it was quite challenging getting off the deck, not many good launch spots? Flying there when the tide is in is officially a no-no, lack of beach certainly keeps you focussed :-)

John Reed picked almost exactly the same spot as I did. I had no instruments other than a ventimeter to check wind speed before launch. I was making it up as I went along so I was very cautious. I still to this day look at the forecast and think "It would be on at Newgale" I must have done 60 or 70 hours there over the 8 years I was there. I never got bored.

Cheers Tim, closest I've got to XC so far, fantastic day. Felt very different to be going somewhere and making decisions along the way. Pretty modest trip I guess, but a hell of an adventure for me and my trusty Alpha 5!

Excellent flight. I have been dreaming of doing this for a number of years, but I'm a hang glider pilot and fear I may need to take up paragliding to do it.

Sorry John, didn't see your post on here, but thanks. Had a comment today from a guy who used to hang-glide on this part of the coast, but I haven't seen anyone else doing it. It would be worth taking up paragliding just to do it - can't think of many better places fly!

Coincidentally I have just flown at Newgale last Sunday and another pilot, Nick Collins did about a month ago. Both are on You tube. Unfortunately I couldn't get past Rickets Head.

Excellent! Interesting seeing that familiar perspective at greater speed. We did it on a day with the wind a bit north of west, helped crossing the inlet at Nolton. I see you even managed to find a dry patch to land!

Would you recommend this wing today?

Highly recommended, it was a very stable and forgiving wing with decent performance, perfect for a beginner and beyond.
