My biggest fear in life...losing my sight. Incredible respect to these athletes to overcome their disability of impaired sight. I cannot even imagine. I have no idea how you do it.
@elijahhedgemondakasupersai1075 Жыл бұрын
It definitely isn’t easy. Take it from someone who is visually impaired and has been that way for 19 years. Technically not a full 19 because I lost my side at two years old, but that’s how it feels. Funny though, your biggest fear is losing your sight, my biggest fear would be regaining my sight. When being visually impaired is all you know, it becomes difficult to imagine not being that way anymore. Plus it introduced me to all these types of sports that I never would’ve known about otherwise, so that’s another cool thing.

I started losing my vision when I turned 18 years old and was officially announced as legally blind back in 2020 at the start of the pandemic. Though, honestly, my eyesight had never been very good to begin with. I was myoptic (near-sighted) and had worn glasses for as long as I could remember...meaning I was already visually impaired to begin with. It could just still be corrected back then with the help of glasses, contacts, or surgery. That's no longer an option for me, now. Anyways, when I first began to lose my vision it was devastating to me as I was a hobby artist, wrote fanfiction, loved to read, and was a very big arts and crafts person...and as I lost vision the ways in which I partook in those hobbies previously no longer worked for me. I had a period of time in which I was grieving the loss of my eyesight - which is perfectly natural, of course. But you don't really get a choice in some things in life and this was one of those times for me. All you can do is keep going and to slowly figure out ways to continue with what you love or to find new things to enjoy. Now I honestly can't even imagine what it would be like to have my vision again and the thought of it returning is actually just as terrifying as the thought of losing it had been for me in the beginning. Honestly, there's not much to it. You just continue on with your life and adapt little by little until it becomes your new norm. To me it's comparable to changing your schedule or moving into a new house, in a way. You get used to it.

@@elijahhedgemondakasupersai1075 Elijah, believe me, most people in this world are blind; not because they cannot see, but because they choose not to. And if you regained your sight, you would be shocked at what you would see.

I just discovered this sport because it was on tv tonight during the Paralympics. It looks very competitive. I would have a hard time adjusting without my sight and relying on sound awareness.

You underestimate the power of the brain - once the brain cannot rely on visual cues it redirects way more power to auditory sensations.

This is by far the most badass sport I’ve seen. Rely only on sound. That’s some serious ninja skills.

I went to the Paralympic Games in London and watched goalball for the first time. It was fun, it was electric. And the fact that you had to be complitly silent during the game grew the hype to then loudly cheer for the goals. I might be wrong but there was one guy in one of the teams asking the audiance to cheer like the one at 1:27. If you have the chance go and watch this sport. To all the athlets: have a great time!

there is a disability sports booth in my school and i played this game. damn! it was hard . when your blindfolded and the ball hits you, IT IS PAINFUL. like you don’t know it’s coming. we were sitting though because it was outdoor so the floor was rough . this game was interestingly interesting

It has to be thrown underhand and bounce at least once before it crosses to the other team's side.
