This was so spot on on movie snobs. They criticized Marilyn Monroe the same way because she was revealing in her movies but never took her acting serious. Even though Babylon takes placs in the 30's, I do believe LaRoy was loosely based on Marilyn a little bit.

People always make assumptions about you because of where you came from, or because you seem ' diifferent' than everyone else. It's just tempting to just let go of the pretense and just say, ' You're right about me, are you happy?' Kind of relate, actually.

It’s literally the perfect environment to attract and breed narcissists, psychopaths and sociopaths - if you make it up the ladder you get power and control over a plethora of naive, vulnerable people desperate to do anything to achieve their dreams and that’s what these Machiavellian/dark triad personality types crave and thrive on.

This was always going to be a monumental flop; a 3 hour, unfocused, laborious debauchery movie. Who was the audience meant to be? It's well shot and the performances are decent, but it deserved a much better script. The problem is, the movie-goers that went to see it represent a niche minority. I saw plenty of film posters and TV ads, so marketing wasn't an issue. It was just never going to sell tickets. Makes you wonder if film companies knowingly subsidise these sorts of films, expecting a loss to begin with.

It’s playtime for these actors. They don’t care if the peasants see it or not. They felt they needed to do some artistic commentary which is somehow deep but very superficial, so they did it.
