One overlooked element of Spencer’s character is his intelligence. At 8:35, when we learn that Alex’s ex is a well- trained swordsman, you see Spencer wrap up his left hand. He knows that he can’t win in a contest of swords, so he takes measures to turn the situation to his advantage. So when the ex lunges, Spencer uses the wrapped hand to grab the blade, disarming his opponent and enabling him to close the distance and knock the man down. It’s brutal, quick, and …most of all…. clever. Brilliant.

But it works out when a “expert” doesn’t remotely act like an “expert” with a weapon to begin with. I mean I don’t know why you all pretend plot armor equals combat IQ. Which is basically all these characters. Oh he was in the civil war must be an expert marksman - 1883. Oh he was in the world war must be a super soldier 1923. Oh he was a Navy SEAL blah blah blah Yellowstone. Basically the excuse for every show is that there’s a wannabe Audie Murphy in everyone

Spencer kept giving him chance after chance. He basically killed himself, it wasn't Spencer's fault. By the end, Spencer was truly just acting on instinct. If he wasn't so close to the side of the ship he would have landed on the deck.

because script writers either don´t care or don´t know a shit about swordsmanship or they need have badass by making everybody else being idiot comparing. Expert swordsman doesn´t buckle by the common brawler techniques if something they incorporate that. First move by that ex-fiance was also some dumb prolonged stab and even that they need cut the camera to actualy hide that Spencer would be at least cutted if not shredded to ribbons...by said expert swordman. Dishonest writing imho.

Spencer was a ww1 vet, a lot of fighting with hammers, blades, improvised weapons, happened in the trenches. Spencer is not a swordsman, but a capable fighter. That knows how to kill.

Expert swordsman in sword to sword combat and training. Spencer isn't fighting a pure sword to sword, he grabbed his opponent sword which is very uncommon. So pretty much sure he might be good in sword to sword duel but Spencer fighting style is different from a pure sword to sword combat.

People seem to forget that safaris and being paid hunters in africa was very much a thing in the victorian period and well into the 20's and 30's. The world was bigger and it was much easier to live an adventurous exciting lifestyle. As jack sparrow says, "world is the same......just less in it"

Did anyone else see his interview when he told about that elephant refusing to push on the vehicle? I don’t know how they made it look like this enraged elephant was tossing that truck around. But we all knew they would never treat an animal like that. He was supposed to comeuppance to the vehicle, lower his head and just push against it. He was so calm and lazy he didn’t want to do it. Somehow they tempted him with food on the ground next to the truck. That was a really scary, exciting sequence.

Yellowstone is coming back in November of 2024 and 1923 we still don't have a date yet. Harrison Ford was busy filming the new Captain America movie, the production can start soon if there are no more scheduling issues with the actors.
