I never really picked up on how John wants to have nice discussions during dinner and not about work. I don't see how he comes to this with how mean, dirty and cut throat his whole ranch can be. Beth during the first scene was exactly right, they do nothing but work from sunrise to sunset and live and breathe it, thats what John Dutton requires them to do so how can they possibly talk about anything else?
@JMarieCAlove Жыл бұрын
Because she doesn’t work at the ranch, she has her own career. But also, I think he desperately wants a bond with his family but everyone of his grown kids looks tired, beaten up, mad or… always mad lol.. but Beth not only stirs the pot, she’s angry the second she sits down before John can just say a word. She is sarcastic and condescending and vulgar. She just can’t relax herself and just enjoy. And when she gets scolded by “daddy”, to stop being vulgar, she gets mad, at anyone who tells her to knock it off, she leaves the dinner table and puts herself in time out. Rip loves her so much, but puts her in her place, and she listens to him.
@Lyrielonwind9 ай бұрын
She has a point: John doesn't anyone talking about work at the dinner table and he asks how was your day. It's like he's promoting cognitive dissonance. Nothing seems to please him. She's also right when she said they have to pretend they are the family they are not. Beth doesn't like faking. I guess that's why she gets so sarcastic but, what would anyone could talk about in that table without stepping on someone's tail? 😂 I wouldn't be able to eat with such a repressed tension in the room.
@Mia_M25 күн бұрын
@@JMarieCAlove that’s not the impression I got about why she ruins meals. Beth hates the dining room/table and what it represents. To her, it’s too much of a reminder of the proverbial yesterday where the family experienced happier times before tragedy struck and sucked the joy from their lives. Like she tells her dad, they aren’t a happy family. Their dad emotionally abandoned them after his wife died, and even said she took all the good and he wasn’t capable of being a good father after her death. So it’s no wonder his children aren’t capable of having talks with him about their personal lives, and why they’re all so emotionally screwed up. They are products of him and his lack of parenting. Their lives center around their work. They barely know what to do with themselves when they aren’t working because that’s how they were brought up. When she was eating dinner just her Rip and Carter, she was perfectly fine, which is why it’s definitely apparent it’s more of the locale than anything.

This family is so dysfunctional I love it. Especially since they don't pretend that they're not. I would love a flashback of a dinner scene when Evelyn was still alive though. Her life and death made the characters who they are now

I'd be so uncomfortable being a guest in the Dutton house for dinner. I'd probably be eating a steak or something and then be caught in an argument and just be sitting there chewing awkwardly.

The meal scenes are similar to that of Blue Bloods sunday dinners, unpredictable yet entertaining to watch.

Glaring was my oldest brothers forte when he moved in with my parents after his divorce and I moved back home after losing my job. We got into fights . Dinner was interesting

At 14:01 when dude scooped the skillet cake out the middle it pissed me off, then to throw it on top of the steak it became personal.
