@@yomister2007 I know there was a bit of history between Kate Mulgrew and Jeri Ryan which was less than pleasant. I don't know if that was ever really dealt with but it would be lovely if there could be a Seven and Janeway reunion since on the show they had almost a mother/daughter dynamic sometimes and seeing how that turned out would be great. And as an aside, this season of Picard is really good, hope you're enjoying it as much as I am.

This interview was amazing. Kate sees Janeway in a way only she would be able to articulate. At times it felt like we were talking to the Admiral and not the actor. It honestly was an immense joy to see. And Wil, while I love him, has come across a bit forced in the past and not at all here.

Back in the day Captain Janeway was my favourite ST captain. She had a maternal sentiment for her crew but was as tough as nails when making command decisions. That balance of her character being tough on the outside and soft in the middle made her endlessly interesting and Kate Mulgrew played her to perfection.

Your love, respect, knowledge and excitement for this franchise is absolutely infectious. Time and again, you say things that might be cringe from anyone else, but when it's from you, it just feels genuine and truly moving. Your interviews with the actors and technicians from the various Star Trek shows is always spot-on and enlightening, and this interview with Kate Mulgrew might be the very best so far. I have greatly enjoyed this season of Prodigy. I think it is some of the best Star Trek yet. It's great for a long time and aging fan such as myself, having watched the original series as a young boy on actual television broadcasting back in the late 1960s and it's a great way for children to be introduced to all the elements of Star Trek that made it so popular all these decades later. It was sad to see Holographic Janeway sacrifice herself but it's going to be great to see Admiral Janeway in the next season. I think the Hageman brothers are the best of the Star Trek show runners. They really know, love and appreciate the things that have made Star Trek great.

Love Kate’s answer to how Janeway brings together ragtag groups. It is about that compassion, and acceptance she shows. The point about it being a characteristic of a feminine leader is such an interesting insight too. Can’t help but compare Janeway to Picard in this regard. In Star Trek: Picard, we constantly see picard’s ragtag group (and others) get mad at him/struggle to get along with him because they feel like they are constantly being judged. Many of them feel the need to prove themselves to Picard. This is (sadly) how many people feel toward their own father, often the first masculine leader in their life. The first feminine leader a person often meets is their mother though, and the mother has this compassion and acceptance Mulgrew is talking about. That’s why Janeway can bring together ragtag groups, they feel safe with her in a world that judges them before they get their foot out the door.
