The intro riff is actually quite simple. I REALLY didn't like it the first 5 times or so that I listened to it.. But everything else rocks. The rest of the guitars (Like the muted chorus) and the lyrics are amazing. I've grown to love it.

I feel like slipknot has transformed into a whole different genre of metal forget the “Nu metal” tag of old. This is more technical instrumentally. Sounds like groove metal with death metal elements but it’s fucking awesome non the less. I’m so happy to have been alive to witness the evolution of this band!!!

Corey has always said that he hates when Slipknot get labeled as "nu metal", it's Slipknot, no one out there is like them, they're in a genre and league of their own.

ZeGamer that’s very true I knew they hated that label but they are considered nu metal by most major outlets that sell/ stream music and that’s a shame because sometimes it strays people away and they don’t know what they are missing. But I agree they aren’t nu metal never even considered them that myself but this definitely solidifies the fact that they are in a genre of their own as you said. 🤘

@@exitlight92 S/T is the only album I could label as nu-metal as it heavily features the rap-metal style, but is heavier than say Korn or Limp Bizkit. I believe the first album is why the label stuck with them throughout their career. Solway's riffs sound so much like technical death metal to me that I just can't see them being labeled as nu-metal anymore AT ALL. The only label we can give Slipknot is heavy metal, that's it.

Are you by chance aware of a little band called Alien Weaponry? Because if you aren't, they're worth checking out. They're a three-piece trash/groove metal band from New Zealand who largely sing in Te Reo*, the traditional language of the Māori people. Which is a pretty fresh take on metal, or music in general really. The vast majority of bands anywhere sing in English these days, for broadest appeal. Alien Weaponry though, despite being from a country where the main language actually is English, as I said mostly sing in a language that has basically been slowly dying ever since New Zealand was colonized and which today is only spoken by an estimated 150,000 people. All the same, they're making some serious waves in the metal scene. They're signed with Napalm Records, to begin with. They've performed at major European festivals (including Wacken Open Air). They've done a US tour as a supporting act for Ministry. They're currently on another world tour. I'm going to watch them perform this weekend in Eindhoven, here in The Netherlands, in fact. Not small accomplishments to boast when the band members are young enough that they got barred from performing with Ministry for their Salt Lake City gig for being under the legal age requirement for the venue. And to have at least one age restricted music video here on KZbin ("Holding My Breath") that two members of the band are officially too young to watch. Oh, I didn't mention that yet, did I? The guitarist/main vocalist and bass guitarist are (to the best of my knowledge) 17 years old at the moment, while the drummer is 19. Their song "Kai Tangata" would be a good place to start. Awesome video too. *English translations are available for several of their videos by just hitting the closed caption button. Though, oddly enough, _not_ for "Kai Tangata", even though it's by far their most popular song. Ah well, you don't need to understand the lyrics to feel the music anyway.
