Pardah | Short Film | K Rohit Ramswami

The story revolves around a newly-wed couple who are still getting to know each
other. They are new to each other’s’ idea of freedom, thought & expression.
Mehak (Fragrance) & her husband are starting this new phase of their lives. They
have to complete registration for their marriage but the events of the very day
poses deep questions for them about their future life as a whole.
As the day proceeds, Mehak finds her husband imposing his own thought of life
on her by suggesting her to wear Pardah (Veil) properly. Equipped with all
contemporary luxuries of the world, Mehak still finds herself entangled in the
mind whether she is truly free. A simple yet an impactful test of her trust and
confidence in the freedom of thought is challenged by her husband through her
clothing choice.
As the day comes to an end, the husband in an attempt to justify his acts over
the day tries to reiterate the importance of “PARDAH (Veil)” to her. But in the
scheme of things he chooses to side-line and crush, Mehak’s idea of life. Faced
with the challenge to her way of being, she protests at the denial of her identity
and a very simple right to choose her own clothes. The husband in his selfrighteous
fury and in an attempt to establish his dominance over the
relationship takes an unusual frantic action.
This episode of her life makes her question the very basis of marriage, whether
she knows her husband, her surrounding, her thoughts, her life understandings.
She is pushed to the edge of her thinking, on whether to accept or protest or
just run-away from the situation.
In such a situation she takes heed of her husband's words on the concept of
Pardah (Veil), and utilizes the same as a tool to express herself where she feels
that her husband is an unknown person to her. She hides herself from this
unknown person by wearing Pardah.

Any ritual of religion needs to be practiced by oneself to please the creator. If it is forced then it kills the purpose and becomes a punishment for the one who is being forced to do it without believing in it. Beliefs come from inside. Educating a woman and then let her decide. It vl make her strong believer and practitioner. Ayat La Ikraha fid Deen (There is No Compulsion in Religion) clearly states the same and all muslims must follow it.

The stories "mards" are brought up on: (1) Ek aurat char char mardo ko jahannu mein leke jaati hai: baap, bhai, shohar, beta; isliye inki zimmedari hoti hai ke voh aurat ko kabu mein rake. (2) ....... ne kaha : maine jahannu me dekha, vaha pe sab se jyada aurate hai, voh is liye kyon ki unhone unke mard ki baat nahi maani. So the mard character in the story was only doing what he was taught to from birth, he was being a good mard as per his ideological belief. The aurat character wanted just "a little" breathing space . Fact is this is ground reality!

Some मदरसा students ask question that, which banana you chose with cover or without cover. My answer is banana come with cover from born moment no one apply anything on it. Like wise we wear as per choice, weather and tradition, and comfort. So it's not permanant thing.

This is the main reason why our kids need to be taught right from childhood about pardah its importance,its value,its benefits.People see it as an opression due to misunderstood concepts .Also the teaching should be done in a polite and righteous way .Pardah is for both men n woman.This is the harsh reality where only missunderstandings create a mess out of beautiful concepts.There must be a great change with regards to both upbringing,reasoning,self decisions, understanding.

Only her face, hands upto wrists should be seen.. Because in Islam women has a high rank.. She is very special.. A women is like queen in islaam with her crown modesty... Sir Actually today's society has displayed Wrong Image about pardah... That Men force us to wear it but in actual it's not... Pardah Is one of the forms of “Hayaa" (modesty) in islam. I also Do pardah And Allahmdulillah I feel proud after wearing it.. Pardah For a Muslim girl is her crown... My father,My brother hasn't ever forced me to wear hijab. I do it because I love it... I feel comfortable and safe in it. I hope u got my point:)

And if the man don't like his wife to be un covered he should convince her calmly, lovingly not forcefully . Parda is actually a protection from evil eyes . It's not a violence. try to understand don't spread negativity .
