I don't understand how easily he says that he rooted for Chicago teams as his second teams and then just moved them to being his first teams when he moved away from Massachusetts. The Cubs were on TV nationwide because of WGN (like he says he "rooted for the Braves" because they were also on TV because of TBS). I just assume Big Cat was a general "sports fan" growing up and he had family in Chicago - so making the claim of the Chicago teams being his "2nd teams" is just a convenient excuse for him to use now. The fear of this coming out and the steps taken to bury it have nothing to do with Dan hiding where he’s from. It’s that his entire public and professional persona with barstool is the ‘lovable loser’ - the long suffering fan of losing teams, the heartbreaking losing bets, being the face of the relatable emotional roller coaster of sports fandom/betting. He has ridden this persona to become the most successful personality in sports entertainment. He’s good at what he does but he becomes infinitely more relatable to most of America with this story of teams that never win, of crushed expectations, which is the perfect counter to early barstool’s “cue the duckboats” Boston contingent focused on success and superiority. But barstool needed a Chicago blogger, and you can’t be a lovable relatable loser sports fan if your hometown teams win 13 titles. He didn’t try to hide this because he was in Les Mis; he tried to hide it (and still doesn’t want it out there) because it makes him a massive fraud. His fandom of Chicago teams was a business decision - 31 NFL fanbases lose every year, and barstool saw a chance to capitalize and grow with personalities that could relate with that sentiment. This is why you ask people to delete tweets, change audio, and keep quiet.

As someone that grew up in Chicago, I was a huge Bills fan bc I loved Thurman Thomas when I was kid and really never became a huge Bears fan until college so it’s understandable to become a big fan of a team in your early 20’s.
