I use hydrogen peroxide and alcohol quite a lot for disinfecting, but bleach is the best (in my opinion) to control mold and killing bacteria, especially in shower areas, on kitchen cutting boards and other areas. Thank you for subscribing. Happy New Year!

This is normal household bleach, so could be used to bleach clothes. Some people use it in a large syringe to draw patterns on dark colors. Depending on how long you let it stay on the clothes, the line work will bleach out white or a lighter color of the original color.

It doesn't matter much what kind of pan you use for cooking the cornstarch and water mixture, but it's best not to have concentrated bleach solutions / mixtures in contact with some kinds of metals. Bleach damages aluminum by corrosion, and also isn't good on copper, giving blue/green compounds. Pretty hard on cast iron, too. Stainless steel is fine, as is enamelware or glass. Non-stick surfaces can be variable. Unless your cookware is a safe material, you might want to do your mixing of the bleach with the paste in some other container. The cornstarch/water paste can be cooked up in a microwave oven, in a microwave-safe container, instead of on the stove.

One other note: It is NOT SAFE to heat mixtures or solutions containing bleach in a microwave oven! They absorb microwave energy strongly and heat up very rapidly, and will release chlorine gas when they're hot. Chlorine gas is corrosive to both lungs and metal. If you're preparing bleach paste using a microwave, only use it to make the constarch/water mixture. It also isn't safe to reheat the paste on the stove after you've mixed the bleach into it, of course, for similar reasons.

I don't think baking powder will thicken the mixture, you need cornstarch, tapioca starch or other starch. Starches work by absorbing the moisture when heat is applied. It's like a catalyst and it works at a molecular level. You might get by with a tablespoon of flour, as it has starch in it, but I've never tried it. It might get too thick.

It will thicken a little more as it cools, which is good when applying to kill mold on tiles and other cleaning chores. Some people use it in a large syringe or squeeze bottle to draw patterns on dark colored clothes and wash right away after the desired effects. The thickness prevents it from running. And it's best to use it within a day or two, because it will start to thin after that. Thanks for watching! Make sure to use gloves! You don't want any household bleach like this, to come into contact your skin.

Could you add soft scrub with bleach to this mixture instead of just plain bleach? This video is exactly what I was looking for, a goo or paste type that don’t just run down the shower wall, it stays where you want it
@StevenParente
@StevenParente 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Kevin. I don't know about soft scrub, I'll have to look into it. You would need to be careful about what ingredients might react with bleach, but a rudimentary search shows that soft scrub already has bleach in it. FYI - you need to use the mixture after mixing, it will start to thin after a few days.

@StevenParente
@StevenParente 3 жыл бұрын
Aloha Declan, if you normally use bleach to whiten a deer skull, I don't see why not, it's bleach. I'm not sure if it would penetrate the entire skull. Just searched online and it seems that you soak the skull (not the antlers) in a solution of water and bleach... OR a mixture of peroxide. See: muskethunting.com/how-to-bleach-a-deer-skull/. The bleach paste mixture could be used for touch ups. Thanks for watching!

Same! so I tried to go slower adding only one tablespoon at a time of the bleach. But as soon as the single tablespoon hit it was immediately back to a consistency of water. It wasn't sitting around, this is happening as it's cooking. The heat was off. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong either
@aphrodity56
@aphrodity56 6 жыл бұрын
It may be that you didn't heat and/or mix it enough. The properties of the cornstarch and water change when they are heated/cooked and mixed correctly. It's important that you mix them completely before and as it is cooking. It's also important that you cook it for the right amount of time and let it cool first. I am not sure but maybe that will help. Make sure it is mixed well and that you cook it long enough for it to change in color and texture. Then let it cool for a bit. I am no expert, but I hope that helps!

Is it not true that bleach is not bleach. If you buy it in Dollar Tree you get a watered down version, less potent. This could also have some molecular effect in the formula. Maybe experiment with pool bleach, or industrial bleach or double bleach strength to see if the gel could hold up better. Cheap bleach is watered down you have to use more for same result. I would think this would have to factor in somehow.

Elina Rancane This is house-hold, laundry bleach, that is thickened so it isn't the consistency of water. I use it to clean tile, because bleach is very effective at killing mold. It will stick to the tile and kill mold and not run off. An artist might put this bleach paste it into a container, like a ketchup of mustard bottle with a thin spout and draw onto dark colored fabrics. This is similar to the effect that one might get if they were to do Batique dying dyeing on fabric. Look this up in Google. But in the reverse. Batique fabric artists draw with wax as a resist and then dye the fabric. If you draw with bleach onto dark colored fabrics, you will create a much lighter shade, so it's like drawing on fabric. But make sure to wear gloves and wash right away, because bleach is corrosive to fabrics. As for your hair, hair salons mainly use Hydrogen Peroxide, which is much less toxic, but they still take many precautions when they lighten hair. So never use household bleach on your hair. Also... if you use bleach, make sure you have a well ventilated area. I have fans running. And never... EVER mix bleach with any other household cleaners or chemicals... EVER!!!! It can create a toxic gas that can kill you or damage your lungs.
@StevenParente

If you are looking for lightening your hair, be sure to add the word "hair" in your search. "How to make hair bleach paste" You'll find several sights and they all mainly use Hydrogen Peroxide and a thickener. Never use household bleach in your hair or get it on your hands.
