I was 10 when I found out that the guy who raised me isn’t my biological dad, but NEVER changed how I felt about my dad. He raised me when a druggy left me in my crib for hours. He made sure I was okay. My dad and I have our differences now because we’ll it’s life, shit happens, but he will forever be my dad, even if he’s not the reason I was born, he was the reason I’m alive.

The parents should have gotten their daughter DNA tested when she was young. You should never keep secrets like this because it will eventually come out.
@sangomoon54564 жыл бұрын
I agree with you on that, its just DNA testing came out in the 90s, its possible judging from how old this episode is that there probably wasn't the option to DNA test at that time. On top of that when DNA testing did come out it was incredibly expensive. It remained quite expensive up into the early 2000s, its only been in the last decade or so where the price has gone down and now these tests can be done through the mail. *Edited for Correction* (G xo kindly informed me that there was an earlier type of DNA testing that became available in the late 80s.) It became mainstream in the 90s because a more advanced type was invented that replaced the old type and then everyone heard about it. I don't want to be spreading any misinformation on the internet..

@@GT-mc9eg Thank you for your input. True, RFLP DNA testing was available in the late 80s but it wasn't until the 90s where PCR DNA testing was invented and it became mainstream. (At a high cost) Not everyone had access, information or the money to get this type of testing in the 80s. You said it yourself, it was available in the late 80s. Judging from when this video was taken, that girl had to have been born in the early 80s so therefore she couldn't have been accurately tested for paternity when she was a baby. (they had other ways of testing that was not so accurate) It was a different time back then and this family probably didn't even know about RFLP DNA testing at that time. I'm standing up for this family because they don't deserve so much criticism for not testing when she was a baby, they do deserve some criticism though for taking her on national television. At the same time, I know that DNA testing was quite expensive for the average family in the early 2000s, so I have some empathy for them. Have a nice day. 🙂

People like to say, "If it's going to break the person's heart, don't tell them," but stuff like this needs to be told. It's not about "breaking the person's heart." It's about needing to know the truth. The truth is what's heart breaking, not being told about it. The fact that there was even a question, it needed to be discussed. You don't keep the truth from people, no matter how much the truth hurts.

This is exactly what happened to me except my dad ended up not being my bio dad. My mom Told me when i was 18 the truth. My dad denied it at the time. I was devastated because my dad was the greatest man in the world. I could not imagine not being his. In the end I had no desire to have a relationship with my biological dad because my daddy gave me such a wonderful life i could never picture anyone else as my dad. This showed me that my dad was even more of a hero to me. I look just like the other man who by the way was my dads ex bestfriend who cheated with my mom while my dad was in military. Yet my dad loved me like I was his, he never treated me differently than my siblings and we ended up being closer than ever. He got killed in a wreck 20 years ago and my life has never been the same. If i could change anything it would be that my mom never told me. That's only good though if the man is like my dad.
