35:20 Fun fact: The test was for Rudy to maintain this spell for an hour, but Rudy used his rudimentary knowledge of meteorology to make the storm self sustaining because he thought the point of the test was to make it self sustaining when he was actually supposed to continue the casting of the spell for an hour straight, so he ended up *really* impressing Roxy.

1:10:52 There’s a reason to this whole arc and I like how it was thought out. It goes to show the people you love are not perfect. Paul isn’t a paragon, but he’s human and he struggles with his own desires. But despite all of his flaws he manages to be a good father to Rudeus and his other kids. And it’s awesome how all these plot points are tied to one another: Paul never planned to cheat on Zenith, but he wasn’t satisfied as he got no action while Zenith was pregnant, that’s how Lilia was able to seduce him; and the reason that Lilia did that was because she had for years gotten no action while at the same time hearing them LOUDLY doing it every night, and she saw this as her chance

5:57:03 You have to think of Roxy as basically being deaf. The other villagers never learned how to speak because they dont need to. The only Migurds who know how to speak are the village elder, so he can communicate with other communities, and Roxy's parents, with her dad being a guard to check vistors and deal with outsiders. Roxy is disabled so of course her parents are sad, like parents of deaf/blind children; they understand well before the child does what a difficult life they will have. Its also why they are so upset that they drove her away. They feel like they failed to make her feel normal.
@LIAuNXeNON
@LIAuNXeNON Жыл бұрын
problem is she's not just deaf she's deaf and mute to them hell like you mentioned only a few know how to comunicate with others for all we know it's essencially a different language to them compared to the languge they would use for talking telepathically so while yes she's not outright mute she might as wekk be talking in a foreign language which most won't understand.
@Tounushi
@Tounushi Жыл бұрын
It's worse than being deaf. If she were telepathically deaf, she wouldn't even be able to tell that they're trying to communicate with her. Her condition is closer to Auditory Processing Disorder; she can tell people in her village are trying to talk to her, but she can't comprehend any of it.
@AnyMEmdq
@AnyMEmdq Жыл бұрын
Not only that, pretending an entire village to change their nature for the one person is just absurd. If you have a disability it sucks, but the world cannot be made to cater specifically to you just because of that. Forcing everyone else in the village to learn a language (you can see Roxy's mom didn't even know how to say "horse" before, implying their telepathic communication is not language-based) because of one person is, at the very least, abusive. Expecting them to go through such an ordeal (collectively learning a foreign language) without forcing them is, at the very least, disingenuous.
@Eleyvie
@Eleyvie 11 ай бұрын
@@AnyMEmdq It's possible if you frame the request correctly, because having more people in the village who can communicate with the rest of the continent can actually be helpful, but that would require a perspective that her parents simply didn't have.
@AnyMEmdq
@AnyMEmdq 11 ай бұрын
@@Eleyvie And it wouldn't be because of Roxy, in that scenario, she would just be collaterally benefitted by it. Regardless, based on the geography of the Demonic continent, and the distance to their closest neighbours, it wouldn't even benefit the village, they don't factually need more people to know the demonic language than the guards and the chief/elder. It's not that by learning it they would be able to establish trade routes, or anything like that. It'd basically be like asking people living in Manhattan to learn how to groom and milk cows. And at most it would be a few more people, and definitely not the children.

Something to note about depression, is that it can hit so much harder when the people close to you are supportive yet you fail to get a hold of yourself. Makes you feel that much worse about yourself because you're seeing how everyone around you are doing well, being nice people, even having enough excess energy and morale to support you, and here you are not even being able to care for yourself - and seeing all this kindness towards you go to waste. Now it feels like you're also dragging those who love you down with you. If it was only your resentment towards yourself you had to deal with, that would be much easier to deal with mentally. But when you're shown love and affection, now you're also conscious about how much of a burden you are to the good people around you. It instills possibly the strongest form of guilt a person can experience. Depression and trauma is a tough one to handle. And this anime is portraying it masterfully. It's the subtle hints and in-between-the-lines parts that truly sets it apart.
@Dread_2137

Mushoku Tensei is not a typical "reborn in another world", it's a story about getting a second chance and deciding whether to keep everything as it was or change something. A story about how people are full of flaws, how they make mistakes, how they don't know everything. Rudeus is complicated character, there's more to him than just him being perverted, above all he's emotionally fragile and weak. One bad day with a delinquent in school, locked himself in his room and never left again. He can't really handle trauma, and he have a very hard time facing some hardships and tragedies that we all face in life. His real trauma was not school stuff, but him being a useless parasite, he leeched off his parents and couldn't even bring himself to go to their funeral. He was disgusting, and he fully knew it. All weird stuff, anime, games, dating sims, pornography were "drugs" he used to numb his pain. The problem being that using these "drugs" made him feel even more disgust with himself, and he blamed everything on himself. Which also caused his view of sex and relationships (both romantic and friendship) to be completely warped. What we observe up to about episode 8 (so like first 2 volumes of light novel) is a drug addict going through withdrawal, who's starting to understand his addiction, that withdrawal is needed for normal functioning, and that he needs to unlearn all the weird stuff from previous life, and how to treat people around him as actual human beings. The great enlightenment comes on his 10th birthday, when Eris let's him do "just a little", and he completely loses control. She withdraws consent and beats him up (he deserved that, there's no need to argue about that). That was the moment he realized that he had been treating people around him as some NPCs from JRPG or dating sim. But sadly he only treats Eris as "fellow human", the rest are still just NPCs. Next day, the teleportation incident happened, there's no time for bullshit anymore. So he vows to protect Eris at all cost and bring her home. It takes some time until he starts to recognize others as alive, and self-aware humans. For some time he also thought of himself as main character of some story, until yet again, life in this new world proven him wrong. This is a very long process that will last for a large part of 2nd season as well. A slow and painful process of unlearning old habits and how to function in human society. Of course, not everything can be fixed, some flaws stay with us for the rest of our lives and we simply have to learn to live with them and how not cause problems for others. Generally, I really recommend reading the light novel, not everything can be adapted, so some of the content is cut out, some things are only visual, so unlike the text they're easy to miss, and novel has many other smaller details that really add depth to the whole story, and make everything easier to understand.

It's a story about real people living in a real world, suffering real difficulties and making real mistakes. You're not supposed to idolize the main character, because he's not a hero. @@SkyMina_no plenty of stuff has changed. Even though slavery still exists in many places, neocolonialism continues from multiple global powers, global warming etc is a disproportionate threat to places which were previously colonised, you can't just write it off as all the same. It's not all the same, it's impossible to measure because life cannot be weighed like that but saying it's all the same is dismissing the times when numerous genocides were at least slowed down drastically, I'm not one to say anything is objectively easily stated to have improved but I can see that many populations which were previously unable to defend themselves except by force can now improve the world with technology, legal battles, etc. From a charity run largely by indigenous people in South America preserving their homes and land in the Amazon to the refugees and asylum seekers my sister's colleagues work to help, there's masses wrong with the world but there were times where less risky methods like this simply wouldn't work because so many people were treated far less like equal humans than they are now, even though things are still far from equal. I find your viewpoint of shielding yourself behind the suffering of others to insist that nothing will change anyway disgusting. The only people you can direct a message like "things will never get better" towards are those trying to improve things.

1:20:40 But that’s the whole point. When Rudy made that request, all three adults in the room, Paul, Zenith, and Lilia, realized that Rudy and Sylphie were becoming too dependent on each other. So they needed to separate them before it was too late. That’s why Paul got Rudy a job in another city. So he can still earn the tuition money he wants for him and Sylphie, but he and Sylphie can also learn to be less dependent on each other by spending some time apart.

To be fair, the entire story, upon reflection, is basically a justification for Rudeus to have a harem. It's the author's ultimate fantasy, largely driven by sexual and/or fantastical desires. It's also best not to forget, that future Rudy did whatever the f*ck he wanted, and morality is kind of a defence mechanism for an awkward Japanese NEET. @@theperson8539Mushoku Tensei is an interpersonal journey at its core. The author is pretty good at integrating existing concepts but not necessarily creating new ones. When he does do so, he doesn't use some crazy quirk that makes an impact of a worldbuilding. It's mostly stuff you'd think makes sense for there to be upon hearing about them for the first time or even if they are slightly off, it's presented more as a culture shock. This is why the fantasy aspect of MT ends up disappointing people who want crazy dungeons or town designs or crazy economics or new races like the Hollows in MiA etc. To me, it ends up becoming quite pleasant because any half-assed attempt at trying to improve the fantasy genre ends up ruining it completely so it's better that the author has a set lore about the creation of the MT world but doesn't try to go too crazy with it

I appreciate how when you watched through the show, you kept relating some of the problems they faced and some of the character moments to your own lives. Especially when it comes to Rudy's past traumas and contemplated how you would or could deal with something like that. I think the purpose of fiction in general is to help us think and work through this type of thing and become more aware of its impact on others. The focus on the parenting and reactions, and reacting to it with so much compassion is heartening. A lot of people get hung up on the character faults that kinda stem from it being an anime, and discount the whole thing because some of the characters and situations are well used tropes that just are not appropriate. I dunno if that makes sense, but hearing how you would aggressive try to help your own child in that situation, regardless of the outcome, is a nice thing to hear parents consider.

And the laws aren't far off of Japan as it is, who until recently had age of consent at 13 (thankfully it's now 16). The reason I feel that even though you despise Rudy, but still find yourself rooting for him is how he's presented. His old body was physically 30, but they do a good job of showing that mentally he was stunted at like 16 when he got bullied and chose to be a shut-in. Even considering him 16 doesn't make it any better what he did to Eris during the early interactions. But you never consider him a monster and root to watch him grow, even if that growth is slow.

Mushoku Tensei's anime was made because the director loved the novel, found it controversial, and knew it had a lot of potential to draw in viewers and was deserving of an adaptation. However due to the nature of the story it was going to be a lot of work, since the environment and characters constantly shuffle around and change. Studio BIND was literally made to make this anime, as per the producer. Mushoku Tensei is one of the few anime to extensively utilize CGI. Thank you so much for the Supercut, I really loved your reaction, so much so that I just had to watch it in one sitting and it's 5 am now. 😂 I'm pretty sure that if these were released episodically on patrons, then the members would have most definitely cleared some of your questions regarding certain things in the episode. A thing to add regarding the woman who's almost naked in episode 16 with Paul; she has a backstory that the anime never explained. She and her sister who's wearing the cloak, are also victims of the mana disaster. They became sex slaves and were saved by Paul. She's wearing that daring outfit because her sister got traumatized by the sexual abuse and can't stand being looked at by males so she wore it to get the attention of males away from her sister. Regarding the bubbles in the dark in the last episode, to me it felt like a symbolism to indicate how Rudy was feeling at that moment. Like the feeling of hopelessness and drowning in darkness. Sinking down not being able to do anything; just the heavy feeling of anxiety and depression. But again thank you so much for all the wonderful reactions!

5:08:47 There is actually a very good reason why she dresses like that. Basically, the 2 girls are sisters and when the teleportation incident happened, they were captured by some bandits and were "used". They got saved by Paul and his group later (you can actually see it at 5:25:08) but the young sister was traumatized and are now scared whenever a man look at her. The older sister got over it quicker so she decided that she will where things that make man look at her and not her little sister. I love how in Mushoku Tensei common anime tropes are not so much tropes but are there for a reason.

what I really love about mushoku tensei is that it asks you to consider what makes someone a bad person. It blurs the line between good people who do some bad things and Bad People who do some good things. Everyone has an opinion on wether or not Rudeus is a redeemable character or not and I think that its really interesting. Some people think he's a good guy who has to unlearn bad habits, some people find him too gross to even finish the show, and some people think he is a bad persion but can empathize with him anyway. No one in the show is a true hero or perfect role model, but instead they each learn things from each other.

Before I say anything else, I would like to say that I love this show and I love your reaction to it. I'm a parent too and I really love how you relate that to the family environments in this show. Now, regarding that: I would really like to add something to the perspective since I realize many people seem to refer to Rudeus's physical age compared to his mental age. I agree that, yes, he was 30+ years old in his past life, but realistically speaking, his mind never developed from that trauma when he was still in school. Mentally, he was a high-schooler at most. So after being reincarnated, his advantage of having past knowledge didn't really translate to 30+ years of experience but more like 15 years. On top of that, his additional 10 years of experience in this word did not amount to his mental age reaching 40+, it's not additive. It's more like when you, in high school, repeat everything you studied in middle school, but just to a more detailed degree. So with all, all I want to say is that by the age of 10, Rudeus's mind was more likely in line of a really intelligent 15 year old than that of a 40 year old. If he had a 40+ year old body - he should be treated by that physique, but since he doesn't I think it's harsh to treat him that way. As for the sex aspect, in most old societies, adulthood was equivalent to puberty and children were educated to take on responsibilities at that age. Therefore, sex and marriage under the age of 15 is really not that weird. It's only weird if you compare it from the mental maturity of modern 15 year olds.

3:10:00 When you try to change (losing weight or anything really) , the WORST feeling is to see your old self in the mirror in the morning. you got complacent and got back a few kilos... in his case, he completly changed from a old bum to a badass kid, and brutaly see himself again... 7:29:15 This is a pet peeves of mine. Being perverted (sexual obsession) is NOT synonymous with being abusive. Rudy was a 37 years old man who got traumatized and shut himself in, spending most of his time with porn he never had a girlfriend and fantasized about having the thing he understood (sex/gratification) but he NEVER spat on love or women in general. you shouldn't confuse the need for sexual gratification and affection. You can be a pervert AND be affectionate and compassionate, a good ref are BDSM, LIBERTAIN or CUCK couples. Rudeus always talked about having a wife and kids, about having a couple, he never projected to be like his father. 7:48:00 In japan, there is a high number of Hikkikomori (shut in). The japanese society is very demanding of it's citizen and, a bit like chinese, many parents EXPECT their kids to be successfull. useless members of the society are easily discarded, bullied, left to rot, because it's more convenient for the society to focus it's efforts on the successfull. Add to that the "shame" system ("If an apple is rotten, throw out the basket") which en up also ostracizing any person who would be in contact with a "failed member of society" and you get that result. Kids who try to do good, get something bad happen, decide to retire from society to not "be a problem", parents who enable failures to hide to preserve their image....

Episode 18 really hits home for me every time I watch it…. What Roxy went through is a more intense and extreme version of what it was like for me growing up with autism. (I know she has something more like auditory processing disorder and she has something much harder to deal with but the disconnect from others and the emotions that come with it are the same) It’s like the words her parents said to her she understood but when they would communicate telepathically she didn’t understand and that’s how every interaction is as an autistic person…. The way he did that was by saying Paul forced himself on to Lilia. It was not Rudus responsibility to save her but the alternative would have been for her to leave. Lilia is defiinity at fault for seducing Paul and Paul is at fault for not being faithful to Zenith. And he will now have to work hard to earn Zenith trust once more. At this point we love the family, but the story shows that there is family drama and that not everyone is "good". They all have flaws. You seemed to be missing some context about Rudeus' previous life. His social condition is a well-known occurrence in Japan, but I am not sure how common it is at such an extreme. He was a jobless high-school drop-out, leaching off of his family, without ever leaving his room for anything but the toilet or bath. He said that he pounded on the floor to "demand" food from his caring parent/s, but he was too out-of-touch to realize that they had died. His pissed off relatives came from the funeral to confront the entitled jerk who didn't even bother to show up at the funeral. Then they saw where his priorities were...so they kicked him out. Since he hasn't talked to anyone in decades, he has some kind of phobia about leaving his room/house, and about people in-general. There is no way he could survive for long out in the world, and his phobia persists into the new world. That said, this is a really interesting series that shows tremendous character growth through the interesting perspective of growing up from an infant. The world-building is deep, and the other characters have an element of gritty realism that reflects the rapidly changing world as well as Redeus' impact on it.

About the Boreas and Notos families thing, specifically Mom and Dad Boreas being so weird about Rudeus: In the noble house succession struggle, only the males can inherit and continue the family line. The Family head, Pilemon Notos Greyrat, takes away the male children of the other houses to control them and keep them from growing, to keep the head family in control of the male inheritors marriages. Rudeus is technicaly from the head family, but Paul gave up his succession right leaving the younger brotther Pilemon in charge, so Rudeus has no right to hold land except the Kighthood his father earned. The current head, Pilemon, is basically a cowardly bastard that does underhanded things to curry political favor with other noble families by using the rest of the Greyrats as pawns and bargaining chips. What is left unsaid is that the Boreas family is likely forced to see Eris married or sold off to a noble as a political bargaining chip. Another thing left unsaid but hinted at by the kidnappers, is that the Greyrat women are sought after by perverted noblemen, and the rich nobles exchange favors with the head Greyrat family by purchasing the branch family's daughters as consorts. With this information, it gives context to the reaction of Mom, Dad and Grandpa Boreas in Rudy's birthday. Eris's father was literally asking Rudy to take over the family and thus ensure that Eris would be the next family head wife. The mother was just wishing for Eris to be spared being married off to some old creep in arranged marriage. Grandpa Boreas is somewhere inbetween, which is why he went on a rant about killing the Notos head himself.

The extra Eris chapter they chose not to adapt would have given the extra context needed, I think. The adults were trying to see to Eris's long term well being. It says something about what they're trying to spare her from by going to the lengths they do, whether Phillip offering Eris by force if need be, Hilda sending Eris to Rudeus' bedroom with instructions to get it on, or Sauros offering to commit to intra-familial warfare. That they could all see that Eris likes Rudy, Rudy likes Eris, and Rudy's magical talent would be a huge asset to the family probably didn't hurt either. I think that probably deserved more exploration than it was given, though I get the time constraints. Maybe collect the unadapted chapters (Zenith, Eris, etc.) as an OVA like Eris the Goblin Slayer?

Pilemon is in the Notos branch with their own duchy. Boreas Greyrats are the dukes of Fittoa. James is the current family head as Sauros semi-retired, being the older and more connected brother of Philip. Pilemon became the Notos head after Paul ran away from home. Paul was 12 and Pilemon was 6. by the end of season 1, he's in his early 20s and his second son Luke is in his early teens. Sauros wanted to eliminate Pilemon and get Rudeus to be the Notos family head. Philip had a more realistic plan of getting him married to Eris as a member of the Boreas family and subsequently have him lend his power to aid Philip in taking the position of family head.

I love this show so much myself, at times I can feel if the perviness was gone it'd be better, but then the perviness also adds a real flaws the way it's handled sometimes. The show works a lot with flaws in characters and then address them either as consequences or evolving from them, whilst many animes use them as gags or personality quirks that never go anywhere. There's a lot to analyse why this show is so good, but I feel you guys probably some of the best reactors who sees them. I love the mention of forgetting it wasn't a slice of life, cause I think that's why it's so good. Many isekai or stories like it with fighting being a focus, fantasy world, big powerful people and not too grounded in realism when it comes to the fighting scenes in general, have very little elements of slice of life, the characters are less a focus than the world, hero story and spectacles of the fight scenes. This one however mixes both, but the slice of life often takes a main focus until the background isekai-power-fantasy-hero-story comes up front and you're taken by surprise, like the first turning point episode you suddenly realize "Hey, this is a huge world with many intriguing powerful characters and crazy fantasy stuff way beyond our little group", then you're pulled back when it's not all about a hero triumphanting over something cause willpower/friendship/destiny and you notice it's also kinda grounded by the slice of life to allow for characters to be flawed to the point failing or losing is just part of the story progression and being traumatized isn't just about getting over it but what those events happening makes the character react abnormally in the future.
@mezz09smezzanine
@mezz09smezzanine Жыл бұрын
so it's not that this was one of the first Isekai, but it is the father of *modern* isekai because it was the first to use a lot of the tropes that Isekais use now. For example reincarnation after being hit by a truck (usually referred to as "Truck Kun") is really common in isekai now, but this was the first one to do it. You might see a few similarities to Konosuba here, since Mushoku Tensei started a lot of the tropes that Konosuba parodies. Most of what they did in story telling was groundbreaking, and many other anime after them tried to mimic it but few did it nearly as well A lot of isekai before Mushoku were things like getting stuck in a computer game (such as Sword Art Online) or being summoned to another world (such as Familliar of Zero), but now Truck Kun is the go-to

I think they didn't realised it. but when lilia says paul R"""" her. she also says she is glad he did cause she would have end up having her first time taking from forced prostitution with noblemans. I guess if lilia can work for paul after was happen and even seduce him again. to the point of having a child together and she also became one of his wives. I guess she appreciated it. maybe a kink of something. who's to say.

People with hang-ups on Rudy acting as a 40 plus creep in a kid's body, completely overlook that in many ways he never got the chance to grow up properly in his past life. They guy was thoroughly bullied loner in his youth and ended up living as a hikkikomori for half his life with games and manga as his only window to the outside world. Obviously he was never going to act like a well-adjusted, responsible adult in his second body, he would't even know how.

i'm glad you enjoyed mushoku tensei! i finished reading the entire novel of MT and it was a beautiful journey. I can't wait to see your reactions to season 2! Btw, there are a couple things the anime missed out from the novels. One of which is Rudeus, Eris, Paul, and Norn going out to eat at a restaurant during their stay at milis. The anime also didn't show eris stealing rudeus' underwear and sniffing it.

I never got to see the initial series of reactions, but am really enjoying this supercut. Based on how much you love the pacing, worldbuilding, and in-depth character development, I would HIGHLY recommend you check out the anime "Ascendance of a Bookworm". It's very similar in the sense of an isekai with a long-term, slow-going storyline and a huge amount of character growth/worldbuilding.

3:56:40 "He just won't decide what to do and confuse him" That's exactly how it went. Ruijerd's way of countering the Eye was to fight reactively. He does A, and if Rudeus does X to counter, he'll do B instead. Essentially adding IF() clauses to the fighting style and just going with those. "I will punch him. If he moves to defend, I'll kick instead; if he moves to counter, I'll grab his hand." That already gives three options for him in a split-second, depending on if Rudeus is going to flinch and hesitate. If Rudeus does nothing, he gets punched; if he defends, he gets hit elsewhere; if he tries to counter, Ruijerd grapples.

19:10 Mushoku Tensei is the origin of the "get hit by a truck and die" Isekai plot. 30:47 As someone who struggles with being a shut-in, it is very easy to start down that path. You don't even need anything bad to happen. Just not have a reason to go outside. Trauma just makes the process faster and harder to break, by giving you a very real fear of what could happen if you do go outside. In the case of Rudeus' previous life, he suffered an extremely traumatic experience that kept him locked away from the world for 20 years and even in his new life, he still suffers the effects of it, being unwilling to go past the fence around his home. 31:49 And sometimes, all you need is someone to help force you out of your comfort zone. Luckily, Roxy is an understanding mentor who is willing to be gentle while still not letting him hold himself back. 1:09:49 Asuran (the country the live in) nobility are super perverted and the Greyrats (who are very high ranked) are no slouches in that area, with whole branches of the family favoring particular body types or features. 1:23:28 Knowing Ghislane, and the tribe she comes from, yes. There was absolutely a fight involved. Not that she, or he, was unwilling. The beastman tribe are just like that. 1:25:00 Most likely before. Paul, like all Greyrats, has a hard time keeping it in his pants. He fucked a lot of women a lot of times. And Zenith has known that from the start. 1:25:13 Uh... about that.... So, the maid is actually the daughter of the owner of the sword school where Paul trained, and is a proficient combatant herself. One day, he raped her and ran off. To deal with the shame of the attack, Lilia left and became a bodyguard for a princess, where she was injured in the leg and couldn't fight anymore. She then got a job as a maid and ended up working for Paul and Zenith. Yeah, she's got issues. 2:23:40 There was definitely some Rudy perving going on with regards to Ghislane's ass, but it was mostly just "holy shit, that's just solid muscle!". 2:25:33 She never hated Rudy. She hates the Greyrat family politics that means she's had to give up her sons as hostages to other branches of the family. 2:31:01 She was letting him for two reasons. She likes him back and wants to be with him, and her dad said to. But, being 12, she's not quite at the point where she can handle that, and instead of shrinking away, responds with violence. 2:59:05 The hair and the eye are both cursed. And the combination enhances the effect. So if you conceal or remove one, the effect will be greatly lessened. Dying his hair would work, but would be difficult to maintain effectively. 3:23:12 The best part of this whole scene is Eris screwing around in the foreground while she lets the others talk. 3:37:08 To be fair to Paul, he tried to be a good father to Rudy. But Rudy was not at all a normal child and needed very different things from what Paul was able to provide. 4:04:19 Why did Zenith marry him? Well, that's because he got her pregnant. 5:02:23 Or it could be inspired by Venice. You know, the actual city on a body of water? Or the Aztec capital city that was built in the middle of a lake. 5:19:09 There is an OVA that covers what Eris was up to during the day that ends right as she bursts through the door here. 5:42:22 You'll notice Rudy does the same thing with his staff. It's a way of showing you don't intend to use it because there's not really a way to put it away like you would a sword or axe. 6:01:36 He's her dad. Of course he's going to object to the idea of her getting married. 7:30:35 Eris absolutely means that she's not worthy of him. Or, more accurately, she wants to be her best self for him, and feels that she needs to train on her own to get there. And yeah, she's bad at explaining herself in a way that won't traumatize him. 7:49:17 As someone who struggles with that sort of thing, don't ever do that. All you will do is make things worse. Do what Roxy did. Be gentle but firm about it. Be supportive. Help your shut in push their comfort zone in ways they can handle. Smashing down the door will only make the process of recovery harder. And no, it is absolutely depression. It might be manifesting differently than what you expect, but it is very much a result of depression. 7:51:05 Part of why hikimoris (shut-ins) can get so bad in Japan is the strong sense of shame associated with mental health. For who was providing it, his parents were. Until they died. That was their funeral at the beginning of the series that he skipped out on. In the anime, he skipped out to play games. In the light novels, however... it was rather worse than that. Not that I can entirely blame him. I hate funerals too and haven't gone to one since by grandparents died 20 years ago.

A turning point in mushoku tensei is not necessarily a point where Rudeus makes a decision. It’s a point where the direction taken by the story changes. If turning point 1 hadn’t happened Rudeus probably would have married Eris and taken over the Notos Greyrats while installing Phillip as the head of the Boreas Greyrats like Phillip and Sauros wanted. Paul even mentioned receiving a letter from Phillip asking permission to do this. Then the teleportation incident occurred and the direction of the story was derailed. Turning Point 2 is important because Eris decides to leave Rudeus as a result of the encounter with Orsted (amongst other things). The story changes direction again after Eris departs.

People who limit themselves to just regular meat miss out on so much delicious stuff. Chicken hearts and liver are great, for instance (if you know how to not ruin the dish, of course). And boiled tongue is probably the tastiest part of a cow in general, no regular steak even comes close. Then there's more questionable but still absolutely delicious stuff like eyes and brains of bigger smoked fish like asian carp. Which, funnily enough, is seen as trash fish in the US. Idk, I just usually buy a 20-30kg specimen from people fishing on a lake with a nuclear power plant on the shore (might be why they grow so big so quickly lol), cut it into thick steaks, keep them in salt for a while and then smoke them. Head is, of course, the tastiest part. Upd. Forgot to mention that cheeks are delicious too.

as a person who spent most his life as a shut in neet due to abuse and severe bullying it was really nice watching you watch this. honestly i expected you guys to not understand rudy and just be completely disgusted. one thing the show nails is the trauma of isolation and how it feels when you start to try and fix yourself. you make mistakes and fall apart over and over until you die. the you that you are anyway. each death of the self brings you closer to redemption but it hurts and you need to be completely dedicated to change or youll end up falling into old habits. for me i had to get past the point where i was praying for death every day. i had to accept that i was weak and pathetic and it was my own fault. i had to accept that i was alone and no one would help me. more than that though i had to accept that it wasnt too late to change. that was the hardest part. forgiving myself for failing myself and loving myself enough to take the risk and seek redemption. accepting that even if i die a failure i want to be able to feel justified in cursing whatever deity awaits me for creating such a cruel world. i cant do that unless i know i did my best. even if my best wasnt very good.
