Yeah usually you wouldn’t have a full front line of full armor knights. You’d have a few but not the whole line. And the ones that did have armor would usually only fight others with armor as well. This is actually what would have happened back in the medieval times if there was two walls of armored soldiers lmao. All about stamina. And plus armor is why warhammers became a thing. Blunt force ended up being deadlier than cutting.

They aren't allowed to thrust because of rules, but in real battle piercing damage would be used much more often. The reason it is banned is because thrusts might sometimes go through face masks or gaps in armor, which is obviously a good thing in real combat

Lots of people sort of just standing around. The interesting thing about that is that is probably pretty accurate. In movies it's as if every single soldier is paired off, but in reality, 3rd rank and back were pretty much just standing there until the guy in front of them died. I couldn't imagine being that guy 5-6 ranks back just waiting as the enemy advances, feeling helpless, and pretty much just waiting for my turn to face the meat grinder of medieval combat.
@carlosrodriguez31042 жыл бұрын
I also noticed that they kinda kept rotating. And it was actually common in medieval combat that if you were the 4th or 5th in the line and saw the 3 men in front of you die and your line has been pushed back a lot, to actually flea. Most medieval battles ended with the majority of an army retreating or scattering. Usually the casualty rate was 10-20% (i could be off) but typically the average soldier ran away when things looked bad.
@onebritishboi9892 Жыл бұрын
Not helpless, not alot of these guys have spears, when in reality when plate armour is a thing big 7, 8 or even 9 foot pikes were a thing so you would be thrusting and defending your allies as much as possible
@b.elzebub9252 Жыл бұрын
Probably not so much waiting for the guy in front of them to die, but rather waiting for him to get tired after a few minutes and swapping places with him. Combat throughout history wasn't nearly as deadly as we believe today. Because our modern industrial type of warfare is insanely deadly by comparison. People really, really don't want to die. And so most will go to huge lengths to protect themselves as best they can. Armor is pretty effective against a lot of the weapons used in those days. The reason all the famous battles were so deadly, was because they were so rare. And that's why they became (in)famous.

@@N331_05 Well its chaos to say at least. @Parfentev Igor I am currently doing it for 3 years and man it is amazing. A month ago I tried my first Buhurt style battle only with chainmail not full plate armour and even with chainmail it is exhausting. I mean I underestimated it totally. I tought it was exhausting to fight 3 times for for 3 points but no. Its way more demanding to fight for several minutes at once without stop wich sounds obvious but the extent in wich it exceeds is dramatic to say at least. I did my 2 duels (not even mass battle) and I felt like I was about to sh*t my pants litteraly and I wanted to p*ke out some organs I can't like my prostate or something. Ofcourse the adrenaline is way higher than in a simple wolin -style duel so that helps a bit. Finally the last thing that comes is you can clearly see the personality of the other guy and also yours. For example I found out that I have way more "monster" in me than I tought wich is scary and calming at the same time. Calming in a sence that I know that if I'd ever have to protect myself or someone else I'd do a pretty good job or atleast give the opponent a damn hard time and scary in the sence of once you have tasted how it feels to let the monster somewhat come out it can be challengeing to not use it in any other kind of stressful or demanding situation. I don't think it is bad to have that monster but it is very important to aknowledge it and know that you have it in yourself. I think this reenactment and fight stuff is way more than a hobby, its a lifestile but for me it is addicting :D

I like to imagine that this isnt too far from real mediaeval battles in history; way more caution and actual lines than hollywoods "everyman for themself!" Version
@5tormkeeperofficial6974 жыл бұрын
No need to imagine, this is how it actually was) the only difference that back in those times they're also used stabbing
@KorsarNik2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, imagine those "running under pikes" moves they showed in Alatriste. You'll be dead in a second if you'll try to run under your enemies' weapons.
@theprancingprussian27 күн бұрын
@@KorsarNik it was used but way more risky, a pikes haft cant do mutch to you but what was not shown in the scene was that those going under them would face 3-4 rows of pikes they had to cast aside

This is what a large scale medieval battle would look like, ranks of guys backing eachother up, rather than the Hollywood hundreds of people in their own little duels!!!!!

Great competition i hope i can get into it one day. The only issue is that a lot of contestants don’t really utilize tactics on the field its more stand and wait rather than deploying men to weak points and flanking the enemy formations

"All warfare is based on deception" is a very good quote to describe why Buhurt is such a good sport. Most battles historically were a battle of endurance and state of mind. Most casualties of war did not happen till a side broke and ran being cut down in the act. Hence fooling or convincing the enemy that you were stronger in any way was so important. Buhurt really takes the essence of that truth of war and condenses it into a ring. This video alone shows so much. Take for example the way the sides were trying to pump themselves up and simultaneously scare the enemy. Then after initial contact it was a straight 6 or 8 minutes of grueling melee which there was no clear sign of a winner, however by that 8 minute mark men began dropping on the camera man's side. This mental blow seeing men go down when they could have fought on is the quintessential aspect of war people don't understand. None of them were bleeding. none of them had broken bones, but there will to fight had diminished in the face of their exhaustion. The enemy had not. The enemy was also just as tired but stayed a cohesive unit in pockets around the ring plowing down those that were smaller then them. Another mental blow. All this in culmination creates the very fun sport of Buhurt. Now yes there could be alot more strategy involved. Roman style rotational front lines would be awesome to see with halberds. But all in all if you know what to look for there is quite a bit of strategy involved.

Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face. Seriously many teams do have tactics. But it's not always easy to implement in groups of people from different countries you have never met before. Nor speak the same language.

Насколько мне известно, примерно так и происходили в средневековье рыцарские бои, большинство уставало либо получало лёгкие раны и прекращали бой. Погибали или получали серьезные ранения лишь единицы.
@misanthropicservitorofmars2116 Жыл бұрын
Yep, most actual casualties were when the enemy routed. Hunting them down on horseback or launching projectiles into them as they flee. Main hand to hand combat wasn’t usually the cause of casualties.
