scam skam/ noun informal noun: scam; plural noun: scams 1. a dishonest scheme; a fraud. ----------------------- their intentions are dishonest. they concoct the "scheme" with the ring with the ultimate intention of tricking you into giving them money. MOST scams result in the victum WILLINGLY handing over the money under false pretenses IE the dishonest scheme part.

This event, the ring, we came across walking by the Seine. The helping the deaf ploy was used on us outside the Louvre, by two teens who spoke little French (amazingly two Gendarmes were nearby who did nothing ). The worst one happened on the Champs d'Elysee when a male approached two American tourists walking in front of us, and asked if they had change for a 50 Euro note . I heard them say something to the effect that public transport would not take large denomination notes. The American took out his wallet to see if he had smaller notes to help, which they snatched from his hand and ran off. Later saw the thief with a guy on a small motorcycle near the Arc De Triomphe. I don't know if they were Romany people involved though in Barcelona we saw two Romany women being given some fairly rough treatment for some scam they pulled and were then hustled off under arrest. A nearby shop owner told us that packs of Romanies descended on Barcelona each year and robbed not only tourists but local shops. Apparently the Romanies are expert pickpockets as well.

So funny, you make my day. How hilarious was the reaction of the romanian girl you first asking if the ring was gold and her replying "I don't know", then looking at you damaging the ring first by rubbing it on the wall and then destroying it with the pliers. How excellent you were dude, the tourist with a camera, coming out of his pocket a pair of pliers!!!!! This was unreal, impossible you meet a tourist with such a tool on him. She must have been shocked and surprised. And you, after the ring was destroyed, saying "hum I don't think it is gold" ;) HAHA. Thanks for the laugh. I save this video on my computer to watch at it when I will have bad thoughts, to revive myself. :) I'm french by the way and live near Paris. Those people are really a scam and a pain in the ass, so watch out, ignore them, tell them to go away and enjoy your tour! :)

Had this happen to me in Paris in the Tuilerie gardens. Single male Roma type more or less shoved it into my hand and walked off about 20 yards - I knew it was a scam - and sure enough he walked back and demanded money. I said no and then he snatched the ring back off me. It is a shame they aren't rounded up and collectively dealt with.

A woman tried the same thing on me when I was crossing a bridge near the Louvre. I partially fell for it, I knew the ring was junk because it was super heavy and didn't look like gold, the woman told me to keep it and I was like "uh... ok, I don't want it", then she asked for money and I realized it was a scam so I gave it back and walked off. A few Parisian teenagers watched the whole thing and congratulated me and my friends for not falling for it, we had a good laugh.

Oh Lord, my mother stopped to talk to one of those street ring scammers. I immediately walked back to pull her away, but she kept trying to understand what the guy was saying as he was speaking rapidly in French. He KNEW she was a sucker and was ignoring me, but when he moved to place a hand on her shoulder I started screaming full volume 'GET YOUR HAND AWAY FROM HER, GET OUT OF HERE RIGHT NOW!!!' I probably went full tilt American with a couple of F bombs I was so freaking mad. They can't get away from you fast enough at that point, afraid the police will come around. I still judge her to this day. She was pick pocketed in Rome with me a few years earlier, and STILL she stopped to talk to this guy, like she hadn't learned a damn thing about traveling in foreign countries! She thinks she's being polite, but has a HUGE target on her. Anytime we go anywhere, I have to remind her how to carry her purse properly, to not make idle chit chat, and don't let anyone get too near you without full situational awareness.

I was walking along with my girl down by the big wheel when a chap tried the same trick with me, my better half being a seasoned traveller soon spotted the trick and told me to refuse the ring. Approximately 3 hours later we there at the underpass were Lady Di died, and low and behold who should show up but the same trickster, he walked in front of us and proceeded to bend down and attempt the same scam, the look on his face when I told him of our earlier meeting was priceless. Paris is full of these scammers, you can't go from the Eifel Tower to the Trocadero without about 50 idiots trying to sell you a piece of string for a euro.

@MaxLohMusic
@MaxLohMusic 9 жыл бұрын
This is a pet peeve of mine but your usage of "Le" is incorrect precisely because it is grammatically correct -- "le" means "the" in French and the whole point of using it reddit-meme style is to make it sound funny, e.g.: "le me at work". When you use it in a grammatically correct way it defeats the purpose.

After about 3 seconds she was after me quicker than Usain Bolt, telling me how it was a mistake and it wasn't my ring, it was hers. "How is it your ring when you said that you saw it fall out of my pocket?" I asked her. She switched back to the old "No understand". The Romani or Rrom people took this name after the revolution in 89 and the stupid government accepted this never thinking that the name is too close to the Romanian nation name and the name the Romanians have for themselves (Români). Yeah, like other people have said a lot of these people carry some heavy muscle near by.... I would have been careful! I was on holiday in Gran Canaria a year or so back & as luck would have it some other residents at the hotel we were staying at just happened to let me know of a local scam & feck me! within hours of being told I was targeted. This is how that one worked: Some African ladies set themselves up at a bottle neck part of a path that led down to the beach next to a lagoon. They would go to shake your hand & as they got contact snap a bracelet from their wrist on to yours that was impossible to remove short of cutting it off. They would then demand 20 or 30 E for the bracelet. Knowing what was coming up when the shysters approached me & a woman held out her hand I said - "See you & your f**king bracelet? You are both going to end up in that lake! Now feck off!"

Mother is a professor on the Holocaust, let me spell it out. Romania = A country with Transylvania in it. Gypsy= Derogatory term for a nomadic people who originated from India Roma/ Romani= A non derogatory term to describe said nomadic people. For centuries the Romania people have been treated like second class citizens by practically every government in Europe, and this stereotype is both racist and damaging to the Romani community. In America, you don't say,`` Look out for black people, they`'ll rob you of everything you have``. Well, at least you shouldn't say that. Black people too suffer from the criminal stereotype that falls on the Romani people, and yet at least black citizens have a voice.

Good job! I was almost scammed in Paris near eifell tower. Their drama was they will ask you first if you speak english and they will ask you to sign on the form for charity and put the amount you want to donate. Little did they know that I already know their drama so I said, "Nope, you can kiss my asian ass".

OurLove4Dance after I signed my name and put my autograph, I wanted to pay 5 euro's. They were like we accept only a minimum of 10 euro's ( idk what went through my head I feel so dumb right now ) so I gave another 5 and they didn't even say thank you. They just straight up walked away.... Thankgod we learn from our mistake's, as stupid as my mistake was it will never happen again.

Gypsies in Paris speak English but can barely speak French. That's why they should be sent to English-speaking countries along with all the migrants that come from English-speaking countries : Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ghana, South Sudan, Somalia, Pakistan etc.

I just put my name on it cause i thought they need some signatures but when i saw in same print saying someone gave them 100euros and they wanted me to pay I just told them no and they were being pushy a bit and at one second they all fled, policeman came on a bike and ripped their papers and even broken their pen I laughed so hard. But one scam I did fell for was at the moment I came into the city and wanted to buy 1 week ticket for subway, there was some computer to buy tickets but I could not get it in english so a guy aproached me clean looking with some sort of id around his neck with his name and everything and offered to buy it from me from that same computer so I said yea no problem he paid for it and gave me the ticket and ask like 10 euros for it i thought ok for 7 days thats fine but it was just a 1 day ticket so I realized what happened after 1 day all other scams were really really obvious.

I don't see what is so appealing about Paris anyways. It looks like any other city. I think people go just so they can tell their friends they've been there. Going to Paris must be a status thing.

I know the fake ring scam so well. A guy approached me with fake ring and I told him to go because the police were watching me all day. With my good luck police showed up by coincidence. I said their they are now. He slowly turns his head to see behind him, thanks me for the warning and then he was gone. I know he got the from a jewelry store garbage because they looked so nice. In a bad neighborhood you never let people touch the real thing till after they have paid.

I sadly fell for a similar scam. It wasn't a Gypsy but a middle aged Asian man on the motorway in UK. Offers me a gold ring AFTER I gave him money for petrol. My local jeweller said people walk in daily with similar stories of fake gold rings. They prey on people's generosity.

Karma reinforcement - Give them an upboat whenever they post (they love this) 4. Look fashionable - Pinstriped suits, bow ties and suspenders are a lady magnet Following these 4 steps you'll have a queue of women outside your house.

This is not unlike the mother and baby scam that a well-organized group was perpetrating on the subway system in my area. A young woman with a babe in arms would go through the subway car hitting up people for money. Not being aware of the scam many would take pity on her and give her money. It was eventually revealed in local media and the group was broken up. My girlfriend got a little mad at me from stopping her from forking over cash to one scammer.

Someone did this to me while visiting Paris. You immediately feel something isn't right. I gave them a euro and told them to keep the ring. It was worth the euro for the show they put on to convince me the ring was real.

Really helpful video. New tourist who are coming to Paris, I would strictly suggest to stay away from stranger. Ther are scammer, theft, racket all the way from airport to all over the streets. I just lost $370 by one of the fake controller from air train. Strictly be careful and police or any government bodies are not really helpful. I love my New York City better than these pick pocketing cities. No nice people here at all. However, paris is beautiful. Can't compare NYC air conditioning subway to worst loopholes like puzzle, overcrowded and no Air cond. subway in paris.

Yeah, I went there in 2008 and had four different ladies come up to me to me trying to sell me some gold ring that they supposedly found on the ground until I saw one "palming" it in her hand as she bent down, pretending to find it. I didn't know it was a scam until the 2nd lady came up to me. I just told her, "You found it!...you keep it! Needless to say, I never gave them any money.
