Went to that concert in La Defense in 1990. It was enormous the sheer numbers there. And the instruments he used were always famous: this laser harp, his semi-circular keyboard, etc. Great composer

It was huge. I don’t think they do concerts with this magnitude anymore closing down half a city with buildings lite up and unique installations and instruments.

I say Jarre is as grand as any of the masters of music from the past (Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven, Bach, etc), the fact is that he evolved technologically and is the 20th / 21st century version of the virtuose of music!
@GammaRayBOOM6 жыл бұрын
Jefferson Paiva I agree with your statement 110%... and the 10% extra is because I lived the time of Jarre.. not Mozart, not Beethoven but Jean Michel fucking Jarre 😉 he’s the artist of my time and unlike most I appreciate the art and artist of my time rather the one that are history.

Jean-Michel Jarre - Paris La Defense a City in Concert was the first J-M Jarre concert I bought on VHS tape in 1990 at a music store in my hometown. My first J-M Jarre album I bought on cassette tape in 1990/91 which was Waiting For Cousteau. But the first time I listened to J-M Jarre's music was in 1987, when the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation showed the Rendez-Vous Houston/Texas concert from 1986, but the concert was not shown on Norwegian television until 1987 by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. So I became Jarre's new fan that evening in 1987, when I was watching Rendez-Vous Houston/Texas from 1986. I was 15-16 years old that time in 1987, when I watched that show in the evening/night and I had weekend that time I watch my first JMJ concert ☺

I like it big and powerful. I have known Jean Michel Jarre for 42 years and his first two LPs are indescribable. I came to Trinity, a disco, for the first time in Hamburg. The world had disappeared. This disco and its music and you were away from Earth.

Well the concert was free, so perhaps you would have had a long voyage there. Anyway, glad you could see it with your dad on VHS. At the time i watched Houston on television, late at night, long before London Docklands and others. And my dad came down and watched it with me. He was amazed and mesmerized, and we had a rare and wonderful evening together.

i wanted to make a remark about the HQ, but noticed you already did it. At the same time i realized this was long before 4K video and associated editing tools. So ... Rather good documentary of this part of the concert, nice of you to upload it. It lets us see much more details at least than we saw from the streets at the time. Still an amazing concert at the evening of a long very hot day, during which the crowds were refreshed by the Parisians who let down bottles of water from their balconies for the thirsty people. The music and show are in my mind forever. Especially at La Défence, in the theme of Calypso. What a wonderful concert it was.

WOW, you star, thanks for posting these HQ videos. It really is appreciated. I was at this concert, I was 16 at the time. It was amazing. Why oh why these concerts never got the DVD treatment, what a crime. Shame also that Mike Mansfield did such a poor job of the Dockands and La Defense films. This one wasnt as bad as the Docklands film tho.

@Davccelion that isnt a sync mismatch between audio and video. The whole track would be out of sync if it were. That is a mime. I dont blame him either. The tech wasnt there to reliably trigger the laser harp back in those days. Its only in recent years he actually does play it, and even then it goes wrong. When your doing a concert for 2.5 million people I wouldnt want to take that chance. I own an Elka Synthex (the laser harp synth) and it freaks out all the time to dodgy midi signals.
