I love this! I visit Paris as much as possible, and use all forms of public transportation. The Metro is definitely my favorite. I've recently began riding more buses to see more of the city, but we walk approximately 10 miles per day around the city. I've been on every line! Thanks for the KZbin posting, it's like going home!

Hey, that's like me! I lived in Paris in my teens, from 1980 to 81 ... The Paris Metro began my ongoing fascination with subways. :) I used to skip school, just so I could explore various parts of the city by metro or by bus (no trams back then). I've been back to Paris a couple of times, and actually avoided the metro because of all of the mental illness that is constantly on display in the metro ... Lots of "clochards" and people acting odd. I think they've cleaned it up a bit, though.

tyres help for climbing hills. They accelerate and deccelerate faster too that's why they're used. It makes same safer to use for automated lines in case of emergency braking (the 3 automated lines all use tyres). They're more expensive to maintain tho.

@condits55_66__77____99
@condits55_66__77____99 6 жыл бұрын
MP 89 trains (like most subway trains) are supplied with DC voltage and are equipped with three-phase asynchronous motors. In order to convert the provided electrical power (DC voltage) into a form that can drive the motors (three-phase AC voltage), and furthermore, to achieve that the power is used most efficiently (i.e. get the optimal torque or acceleration), power electronics like GTO inverters are utilized. The distinctive sound is caused by the alternating magnetic field that stimulates some mechanical oscillations in the windings of the induction motor. These mechanical oscillations propagate through the air, thus becoming audible to us.

@mangococonut4918
@mangococonut4918 4 жыл бұрын
These are the oldest trains on the metro. Additionally, the same type of "selective door operation" trains, as you put it are also on lines 3, 7, 8, 10, 11 and 12. There are the trains on line 11, which are the absolute oldest on the metro, and the ones on lines 3, 10 and 12. And as strange as it may sound, these are opened with door knobs of some sort. And then there are the ones on lines 7 and 8, which are also with "selective door operation", but with buttons instead. There are the same trains as on line 7 and 8 on line 13, but line 13 has been a little bit "automated", if I can say so, so they don't have that thing. Aaand, that was some info on the Paris Metro.

It's interesting how almost all the stations have the same shape - elliptical ceiling and walls, which does look nice, but gets quite boring as they all seem to have white tiles... Looks a bit sterile and dull unfortunately... I think it would look great if they tiled the stations with colourful tiles and patterns and used different lightings like at 2:34 . Give every station a bit of unique character... :)

And on top of these 16 lines, you need to count the RER network (5). So the entire city of Paris is crossed by 21 lines. This is kinda incredible if you know the actual size of the city compared to London for instance. And I did not include transilien lines.

@ Paris metropolis is bigger than London metropolis, 12 million people vs 9 million.
4 жыл бұрын
@@towaritch Of course, this is true, but Paris city itself is really small, only 105 km², and within this area you can find 16 lines that barely go beyond. In term of density, this is extreme.
