Hey, that's like me! I lived in Paris in my teens, from 1980 to 81 ... The Paris Metro began my ongoing fascination with subways. :) I used to skip school, just so I could explore various parts of the city by metro or by bus (no trams back then). I've been back to Paris a couple of times, and actually avoided the metro because of all of the mental illness that is constantly on display in the metro ... Lots of "clochards" and people acting odd. I think they've cleaned it up a bit, though.

@Samuel-lq3gh6 жыл бұрын
Cool. I never knew why trains had a sound when they left.
@condits55_66__77____996 жыл бұрын
MP 89 trains (like most subway trains) are supplied with DC voltage and are equipped with three-phase asynchronous motors. In order to convert the provided electrical power (DC voltage) into a form that can drive the motors (three-phase AC voltage), and furthermore, to achieve that the power is used most efficiently (i.e. get the optimal torque or acceleration), power electronics like GTO inverters are utilized. The distinctive sound is caused by the alternating magnetic field that stimulates some mechanical oscillations in the windings of the induction motor. These mechanical oscillations propagate through the air, thus becoming audible to us.

These are the oldest trains on the metro. Additionally, the same type of "selective door operation" trains, as you put it are also on lines 3, 7, 8, 10, 11 and 12. There are the trains on line 11, which are the absolute oldest on the metro, and the ones on lines 3, 10 and 12. And as strange as it may sound, these are opened with door knobs of some sort. And then there are the ones on lines 7 and 8, which are also with "selective door operation", but with buttons instead. There are the same trains as on line 7 and 8 on line 13, but line 13 has been a little bit "automated", if I can say so, so they don't have that thing. Aaand, that was some info on the Paris Metro.
