In 1967 I was 5 years old, my mom and dad bought an 8 track of Lou Rawls live in a small club. I'm 58 now and still remember standing on the back seat of the car listening to Lou sing with Tommy Stone on the piano and being enthralled by his voice. I sang along with those songs and claimed Lou as my favorite singer of all time, and still do today. thanx for this vid and the great memories. It's awesome that his audience here gets it too.

I found a box of old cassettes sent from my uncle who worked for Columbia back in the 60s, a mixed tap of hits of back then, with two Lou Rawls songs I still can't find anywhere (last time I looked). Sometime in the early '80's my late wife, a jazz singer, and I, threw a birthday party for Stanley in Dallas, where he had played at the Fairmount Hotel. Took him to the airport the next morning......boy he couldn't wait to get out of Texas. Really nice man.
@2dasimmons10 жыл бұрын
Wow. I'm sure Stanley Turrentine was ready to get out of Texas QUICK. My father was from Texas and it was vicious to black folk. Such a violent KKK presence and lynchings it was UNREAL. It's not as bad as it was in the '50s-'70s but it still is incredibly racist especially towards blacks. There are a lot of Hispanics but they tend to assimilate a little better yet they've got it tough. RIP Stanley Turrentine and Lou Rawls.
