As for actresses, you could do Leslie Caron. She’s French of course and also starred in a number of movies set in France (American In Paris, Gigi, Fanny, Daddy Longlegs, Lili etc.) By the way, “Love In The Afternoon” is another great Audrey Hepburn movie that takes place in France.

Aside from the inaccuracies about Audrey being American and the film Charade being directed by Hitchcock, all the dresses shown had low necklines which are the exact opposite of Hepburn's quintessential look. Audrey was known to think poorly of her collarbones, which she believed were too skinny, and instead sought to emphasise her shoulders. Through her lifelong fashion collaboration with her dear friend Hubert, the term 'décollete Sabrina' would be adopted to refer to the signature high neckline (also known as a boat neck or bateau neck) of the Givenchy dresses she wore and popularised. Although at times Audrey sported a lower neckline to movie premieres and during some of her scenes, it is the bateau neck style garments in which she felt the most comfortable and would ultimately become apart of her enduring image as a beauty icon.

where did you learn all that? i’d love to know more!
@phoebec29912 жыл бұрын
@@breadstickavenger Hi Luisa, Personally I’ve always had a love for fashion and black-and-white cinema, and it was after watching Roman Holiday as a girl that I became completely mesmerised by Audrey and her style, and just had to know more! There are two books I would recommend for some delightful reading that are relatively condensed, but nonetheless informative and a great start into understanding Audrey’s clothing choices both on and off-screen. They are: ‘The Little Book of Audrey Hepburn’ by Caroline Jones, and, ‘Audrey and Givenchy: A Fashion Love Affair’ by Cindy De La Hoz. If your focus is on Hepburn's fashion, often coffee table books about Givenchy’s collections can provide useful information and imagery about the design process and intention behind his work and collaboration with Audrey. Oh, and keep your eye out for any museum exhibitions about fashion or cinema if you’re interested, that is where I have found some really niche and gorgeous artefacts! Also I am not sure of your location, but I regularly pick up The Australian Women’s Weekly Icons magazines. Although they can be a bit tabloid-esque, they can offer some concise insights into Old Hollywood and will often spark my interest in another cultural figure, whose pictures I can conveniently cut out and use to decorate with as signature wallpaper. 🥰 Hope this serves you well! 💕

A great approach to fashion history! But I must say, the little black dress doesn’t work work with chunky heels, especially on someone petite. The style wants kitten heels because it continues the elegant line all the way to the ground plane.
@discogoth2 жыл бұрын
As an ultra-petite who wears a black dress nearly everyday, many of which count as a “little black dress”, it definitely depends on the dress and the vibe. A shift dress looks great with Mary Janes, a midi-length, fitted wiggle dress looks great with pointed toe black pumps, a swing dress looks awesome with some chunky heels. A fitted midi-length dress shouldn’t really be worn with kitten heels on a petite. I’m 4’9” and kitten heels just make me look so much shorter if my fitted dress is below the knee. However, a flowy midi-length dress that emphasizes the natural waist looks nice with kitten heels because it doesn’t make the wearer look so short and stumpy.
