Park Metal Detecting : Can't Believe What I Found in a Playground

Metal detecting several tot lots with the Minelab Vanquish 540 and Pro Find 35 Pinpointer. Found rings and a magazine...not one you read!!!

Hi from Oregon. Your tot lot hunts inspired my wife and I to hunt a little a little one in the next town over. Ended up finding a 1883 Indian Head Penny :) 32 years metal detecting and that is only the third one I've found. We use Garret ATMAX, and the Ace 300.

Just subscribed to your site. Finally nice to come accros a site that deals in my kind of metal detecting. Seems like I was stuck watching stuff from back east where it's mostly civil war relics and colonial. Wonderful to find someone that's into play grounds. I've been detecting the better part of 18 years and truly enjoy playing in the cedar chips. Don't much care for the areas where cedar was replaced with the ground up rubber tires. Tired of finding valve stems and metal fragments. Happy hunting and best regards from up north in Susanville.

I like the suggestion of the use of the pinpoint around park benches where a lot of metal is that affects the main metal detector itself. Thank you for the information.

Christine missed the chance to say you were foiled again, when you found the foil. LOL That is the smallest magazine I have seen, not surprising to find in a playground though I have found switch blades and also saw a gun ditched in the wood chips I told the police where it was ditched.(the guy who ditched it was being chased by police when he ditched it)

That magazine is from a mini model m16 or ak47. They are toys but are fully mechanical and able to be stripped down and such. They dont fire anything though.

You can push it all the way down and there are some wear marks showing it has been inserted and removed. I am stumped but still looking. For a replica, it is amazingly real?

Unfortunately NO...If I am trying to be quiet, I put a finger over the speaker and that helps to not bother park goers. I am thinking about putting something over it to muffle the noise. It is very loud.

Here is my first video with the 540... kzbin.info/www/bejne/epukZnp7iLabe5Y If you skip the almost 2 minute intro (off road) you can get to where I start setting it up and using it. I absolutely love this machine. It does a great job in parks and dry sand beaches. I don't really use it in the water. Don't think it is good in wet salt water. However, I like it mostly because you turn it on and go. It is my goto for the parks. I switch out and use the Nox when I am working the wet sand. That said, I am going to the beach this week and should try the 540 out in the wet....
