Like others have commented, a tennis ball on a string is what we have always used. And we position it to line up with the rear-view mirror and that helps with the side wall considerations. I guess if you live in a fancy house this might be a more esthetically pleasing option. Thanks for looking for good deals though, even if some are not necessarily the cheapest options.

Wow, i wish I had this before I put a 2 inch scratch on my truck! I wonder if this would help me park in the street? I have to be away from the deep sloping gutter, but not too far out, Probably not. I keep hearing garage parking, would it help you park at the store or other open spaces?

You would have to mount the unit permanently someplace so it wouldn't help anywhere that you couldn't do that. As for open spaces, it would have to be dark enough to be able to see the laser light on your dash, so if it's a sunny area, it wouldn't help, either. If you were parking someplace that was in perpetual shade, say, next to a building, then it could work, depending on how dark it is. Most of the lasers on these devices aren't very powerful.
