It is one of many DE Blade wet shave razors. Each has its own specifications. So one of them will be the right one for a man. Nothing beats traditional wet shaving!

Parker 99r was my first DE razor when I got started. I totally agree with your assesment, great razor to get started but not the best for an experienced wet shaver.

Great video Con. When I started wet shaving I bought this and the DE89. I ended up give the Parker to my dad. Who has only used it a few times.

As a beginner, I bought this razor and it seems to work very well. I liked the way you noted from an "experienced" point of view it might not be so good. That said, I too have cut my self to ribbons with this razor, but I was chalking it up to inexperience. Maybe not. Your review seems to be very accurate. YMMV. Keep up the quality reviews!

very well built razor, great TTO action and balance, grip is good as well. shave is very mild, I use often with a polsilver as well. I can say the same as to finding an angle with this razor is hard, but at the end of the day it did give a good shave at a good price.

Great video! When I was first looking into traditional shaving I was looking at this and an Edwin Jagger razor for my first razor. The EJ was my final choice but I've still wanted to get a Parker 99r just to try it out. Add to my little collection.

I'm curious Con, do you use a DE razor to shave your head or multi cartridge? As someone with the same sharp look I have to admit even though I DE shave I do use a multi cartridge to shave my Barnet. Cardinal regards, Mark.

***** I used to use a DE on my face and carts on my head. I slowly fazed out the carts as my skills improved. It took some time, but through sheer perseverance I now use DE's exclusively. Thanks Mark :)

Con, I have the 92r, and I find it a nice razor for the money, around the same aggressiveness as a DE89. I love pol Silver blades like you, but I did find them not to be the right blade for the razor. I think the Rapira Plat Lux blades work quite nicely in my Parker. That could be the same in the 99r. As of course, YMMV. Well that's the opinion of the Court Jester of Wet Shaving lol
@shavetheman9 жыл бұрын
Interesting Fronz, I just found this razor lacking in the sort of aggressiveness I'm accustomed to. I will try a few more different blades.... Thanks for sharing brother! All the best, Con

Hey, i need urgent help. I bought a black badger brush. But when i used it, there were a lot of miss coloring. (the soap turned light brown). Is this normal, or is this a color treated brush. Could it be dangerous to use or cause irritation? Please help

This was my very first razor. I liked it a lot but Parker products for me always break down. This razor literally fell apart and decided to buy an Edwin Jagger DE89 which I still use after all these years :)

@aiquelindo9 жыл бұрын
I have this razor and I have exactly the same experience. Decent construction and price but way too mild even with feather blades. I don't use it because I tend to cut myself with it (I guess I apply more pressure in an attempt to make it work) as opposed to my more aggressive open comb that rarely gives me nicks.
@shawns.33769 жыл бұрын
Great vid, Con, keep them coming! My first razor was a Parker 22R, also mild, but, you're right, good razors to start into wet shaving with. I do like it, I still have it I use it for travel now and then. But my beard is thick and heavy(but thankfully grows even haha), so, while it would work, like you said, I needed to go over it a few times. Not the best results the first few times, blood loss and all lol Still, for a first timer a great choice in razors to start with, easy to use and you're not fiddling as much trying to get the blade to lay even. I 'upgraded' to the Ikon Slant Bar, the first run of them, not the DLC, and that is, IMO, a great razor. I use Shark blades(though I want to try others when I next need blades now that I have more experience), and I it glides through my whiskers with ease :D

I had a Parker 99r for a short time. Way too mild. Like you, I found the shaving angle to be elusive. I think it has a very narrow range of angles that will allow the razor to shave. Have you tried a Fatip? Or the Merkur Progress? I'd enjoy hearing your impressions of those razors.
@shavetheman9 жыл бұрын
Hi Will Appleton, a Fatip review is on the list for review. Thanks for your feedback. Regards, Con

Great video Con. That's i the first DE i got, and i can agree on, the bild quality is fine and angle is hard to find and it's mild. But i woud not recommed to a beginner, because of the angle, i woud rather recommed a 34c or a r89. And i think it's a bit to long. Keep the videos comming ;)

+Hardeep Singh I am using a vintage Gillette (actually a Lady Gillette), but new to DE. I used disposable 2 blades before and did electric for a while. Like the TTO feature but have read they may have alignment issues. May get a Feather Popular because 1) it is cheap, but 2) is TTO, 3) got good reviews and 4) comes with feather blades which I am wanting to try. Like the Jagger? PS: Thanks for quick reply!
@2HatHudders8 жыл бұрын
+Tim Kennedy it's hard to give the Jagger a full review as its my first one and I'm still finding the right blades for my skin, but I do love the build quality and weight. overall it's a smooth shave close shave, I'm finding under the chin neck area a little difficult to get a bbs shave without irritating it! so far I've tried Astra sp, treet platinum, lord platinum, derby, Gillette 7 Sharpe edge and feathers. but will revisit them because I think my technique is generally improving as time goes on!

Pro : the price, I like the butterfly-mechanism, and I like it heavy. Contra : The blade is not symmetric on both sides, the bar is slippery and the screw is badly fixed, I have to fix it a few times during the shave.

I started with a 99 hour And find the Shaves were very blade dependent. I thin the 99r does not flatter the shaver and therefore encourages you to improve your technique. I now use a 34C and find that this Razor is very forgiving.
@Jazzberrytpt19 жыл бұрын
I have a Parker 26c open comb and it shaves fantasicaly. Parker open combs are milder than their closed combs. Mine is smooth as silk. the problem with these India razors is that they tend to have blade alignment issues. That is why people report the shaving inconsistantcies. I have a maggard MR5 that has some blade wiggle, and have to check alignment before I tighten it down. Then it shaves great. My 26c and My Razorock Jaws Hammer dosen't have that issue, so I guess it is a bit of quality control problems. But when you get one that is spot on, they can out shave merkur, muhle, Jagger, etc.
@richardayrton26978 жыл бұрын
+robert stockton How are you finding the 26c? I'm thinking of getting one - just feel hesitant about getting a Parker..
@Jazzberrytpt18 жыл бұрын
Parker's open comb are milder than their closed comb couterpart on agressiveness. But because they are an open comb they still retain their efficiency that open combs are noted for, but with the mildness of a closed comb gillette. Great combo! My second favorite razor next to a vintage schick krona.

This was my first proper DE razor i bought but got lots of nicks with it. What i find is it doesnt hold the blade that firmly so you get nicks. This is the worst DE razor I have ever had the misfortune to use, not just because it dragged, clogged and teared as I was using it for just two delicate passes but I got he worst cut (1 inch deep just above my Adam's apple which took ages to stop - still got he scar) ever in my shaving life. The seller presented obstacles when I attempted to return it so I will quietly discard and put it down to experience. The Merkur 34c now thats a razor worth talking about.
