Happy you reviewed this. Just recently got a pre-owned one exactly as this - Firedance F nib w date code L. Means made in Q4 1993 - one of the first batches of the 1994 release.

I bought mine (Deep Blue Lacque), in 1998 when beginning a new job. Still using it to this day and it's one of the favourites in my small collection of Parker fountain pens. The '51' gets top billing!

I got one of these today! Cap code is IT, so 1995 model I’ve found. 18k Broad nib is divine... 💙 Also, I have the exact same converter!

Could you tell me where do you find this code? Mine is slightly rubbed off...

Still have my Sonnet Flighter CT from 1994 and it's still the best fountain pen I've ever had in terms of usability. Just perfect everyday pen.

Great video! I have a modern 18k Parker Sonnet (Black GT) and it too has a "bouncy" nib. I LOVE the pen and it is definitely one of my favourites in my rather modest collection. I do plan to get some vintage Sonnets though, cos' I'm curious what the original 1990s ones are like.

I have a later model Sonnet. Getting ready to publish review. Always like to look at others. From my reading the larger cap band is a later model 1999+. Don't remember where I bought mine. It is a blue lacquer 2001, fine 18k nib. It is also soft with feedback but smooth. These are excellent pens, mostly overlooked.

Oh my goodness. I’ve been looking for a youtube video reviewing this pen. I’ve had mine since 1994! I’m still using it today. Thank you for your review. I’ve been trying to find cartridges for it. Currently, I syringe fill the original cartridge with ink.

Theresa Robertson you can order a converter for the pen either off Amazon or other pen websites. I have a backup converter in case I need it. That way you do not have to keep reusing your cartridges.

Aaron's Pen Videos Can you tell which converter or give me a link on amazon?? Thank so much for your reply.
That is the same converter I have. I double checked and it fits in the pen very well. You may also be able to find it cheaper somewhere else.

Aaron i have got a Parker Sonnet like that it is the mk 1 like yours but mine is the Deep Green and black Lacquer striped version. I got mine in the early 2000's and couple of years ago i put a single tone 18k nib in it which is an excellent nib nice and springy and i must say it is one the best writing pens iv'e got. I am still writing with it now inked up with some Diamine Teal. To me it is a true work horse of a pen. I personally would say it is one of the best pens Parker have made. I hope you keep yours as long as i have had mine because one day they will very hard to find. The vibrancy of the red is amazing and it looks in absolutely mint condition. As always thankyou for another excellent review and a cracking pen.

The push and pull type converters are for cheaper models of parker sonnet and the converter you got with your sonnet is premium one. Although, the converter you got was common to each and every models of sonnet regardlessly whether it is a steel or gold nib of 1994-1998 era. None the less a great review.

I have a Sonnet special edition with the 18K fine point gifted to me in 2018. It is aesthetically beautiful and a pleasure to write with. Unfortunately, there were a number of problems that prove to be be common. After a few months the nib assembly fell apart I sent it back to Parker under the warrantee and they repaired it. However, after getting the pen back, the cap wouldn't stay on. Again I sent it back and they apparently replaced the entire pen. It is now four years later, and the cap is loose again and is out of warrantee. This is not what you expect from a pen that retails as much as $300.

I have a sonnet with the same finish, it was recently given to me by my mother, who was gifted the pen by friends. Love it, it has an X on the feed instead of an M like yours, so Im guessing that means extra fine. The EF isnt scratchy at all and is surprisingly smooth, its inked with iroshizuku take sumi right now and I absolutely love it.

No way, I have that exact pen, firedance IL, except it has a fine nib. Person I bought it from also got it from an estate sale. Got mine in a lot with some vintage waterman and cross pens. I have almost the same metropolitan too, but the lizard one.

I just got a Sonnet as a gift for helping a coworker catalogue her fountain pens. I loved this video! So much information, I have no idea when it was made.... how can you tell? Mine is a Moonbeam lacquer finished, EF (X).
