I have my eye on either the Niagara or the Brass from Grant Stone. I'm leaning more towards these.. I'll have to wait until they have my size in stock, unfortunately.

Got an order in with the last batch. Ordered mine with the dainite type sole instead of leather. Thinking they will not be in until July, and I will just have to admire them until flip flop weather is past

I just purchased the last size 13 because of your review. They look like great boots and the fact the last is similar to the Alden True Balance, which is my favorite last, sealed the deal.

Gorgeous boot. I had my mind set on Redwing Moc Toe 1907 but now you have me thinking.

These are not workboot like the 1907 though, more like the Indy 405 which were originally a more refined workboot

I often hear people say that leather soles are breathable but does it matter when you have several layers of contact cement and a load of cork mixed with petrochemical or rubber based binding agents like urethane, wedged between you and that sole ? And that's ignoring the insole and midsole. I've used GYW shoes for over 30 years and despite living in rainy Scotland always used to insist on leather soles for the first 10 or 15 years, despite having to get several re-soles per year for my footwear. Then I switched to Dainite soles for some of my shoes and really did not notice any difference. I'm now of the opinion that if you have a decent amount of leather under your feet to absorb moisture (leather insole, possibly leather midsole) that what your soles are made of are irrelevant as far as breathability is concerned. Most moisture will escape through the upper and when your feet flex and create gaps around the foot. I do understand that the different feel of leather soles and the way they flex is a thing but am very dubious about breathability benefits.
@BestPaulever
@BestPaulever 2 жыл бұрын
Once I heard a professional cobbler say cork footbed indeed takes some moisture but it gets to its maximum quickly once exposed in the air. That can vary in different environments for sure. And then a coat of glue. All he was trying to say is that it might not be scientifically proven that leather outsoles are more breathable than rubber outsoles. Personally, I do not experience the difference either.
@UnknownUser-rb9pd
@UnknownUser-rb9pd 2 жыл бұрын
@@BestPaulever A cork filler may absorb some moisture but that will be the case with a rubber sole as well. Also the insole will absorb more moisture than the cork but given you have a big hole in the upper where your foot goes that is more significant as will be the greater upper surface area. I'm also sure that lined shoes with a lining glued to the upper will retain more internal moisture than an unlined shoe or boot (though you may not feel it due to the lining) and that will make a bigger difference than the type of sole. Finally, I'm sure that conditioners, cream and especially wax will all reduce the amount of moisture that can pass through the upper as well. Anyway, for people that have sweaty feet and live in a hot climate they invented sandals 🙂

I have several pairs of Parkhurst boots, im a big fan. Spruce kudo, Ridge kudo in Allen. And some others. I bought them before the pandemic, so I believe 350.00 range. All nice boots. They have a feeling of bespoke a half century ago. They aren't top tier, but still very good. The price jump is a little discerning. But these look really nice. I have the Grant Stone brass boot and these look very similar with possibly same build quality as GS.

Hey there , since you have grant stone brass boot how would compare them and fit and if u must keep one only which one it would be ? Also do u own grant stone diesel boot ?
@bonecollector1968
@bonecollector1968 2 жыл бұрын
@@Angel-AbC9 the GS Brass boot fit slightly big. Maybe 1/2 size larger than there other boots. I had to go down to 9.5 , I usually take 10 in 99% of all boots. The GS boots are slightly better in all aspects for me. I have the diesel boot. One pair in suede and in natural leather. Awesome boots. My no.1 boot is probably diesel. Love me some Parkhurst though lol..👍

I have these in mahogany with rubber soles. Agree with your comment that they are less snug than expected. But I have weirdly shaped and asymmetric feet so this is an advantage. I wear thicker socks as I got them to wear in cooler weather anyway and so all is well.

Some how it seems the grant stone boots at 380.00 is a sale of a bargin over many boots on its class and higher price. I like the look of the parkhurst but wonder if paying much more than grant stone is worth it, hmmm

Hi Teik, I'm curious as to how you got that pricing? When I used the link you provided it showed a price of $694, postage to the NT comes in at $100 for snail mail. Now assuming those are $US prices that puts these boots at over $1000 Australian.
