parking reversing ( horse / catering / boat ) trailer with Mercedes ML 270 CDI

Reversing while towing a trailer can be a daunting task but like most things in life practice makes perfect. To make a trailer turn in a particular direction you have to make the back of the car turn in the opposite direction. If the trailer goes out of line, it may be easier to pull forward to correct it.

As part of an advanced driving course, we had to do an obstacle course in reverse using only our side mirrors (not allowed to stick the head out of the window, use rear view mirror etc.) within a set time. I was amazed how easy reversing became using just those mirrors, and came in handy when I practiced reversing our dual axle caravan.

I think the brain gets confused when using mirrors AND looking over your shoulder. I try to use only mirrors.

The original Mercedes ML 270 cdi was/is a phenomenal tow truck, point it at any hill and it just laughs and pulls away, economical too. its problem was that most of the people that bought it thought they were buying a car, it was definitely more of a truck/work horse.

The old MLs are very under rated 3 sub frames for strength 400 nm or torque and very reliable work horses, ad comfortable on the motorway and great off road.

If the Trailed vehicle is longer than the Pulling vehicle then it gets easier, a short trailing vehicle is a pain to reverse

Awesome! I'd love to see a descriptive tutorial on "how to" its one thing to think you know how...yet another to actually do it. I tried it with a towable light tower and that sucker was squirrelly
